Did he enjoy the rugby?
Did they win?
Was he pleased to be chosen for the team?
sounds like a real boost to his self-esteem to be chosen.
The reality could be that if you kick up a fuss and refuse to pay, next time he might not get chosen. How will that make him feel?
Yes they enjoyed it, they didn't win overall though.
He's been in the school team since Year 7 so he doesn't get picked, he's automatically in it.
I don't want to kick up a fuss but I want to make it clear that I'm not happy to have to pay funds for something during school hours, which the school get all the glory for. I thought about it coming back to my son, so I'll be mentioning that too.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
for the kids on free meals they should have got a packed lunch from the school that what used to happen when I was in school meals
Exactly. But they don't and it's so unfair, especially as we only got 2 days notice, so for people who do their shopping at weekends for example, they may not have anything in or be able to get something in in time.
We didn't have anything in for him so OH had to go to a local shop - £4 later...:rolleyes:searching_me wrote: »shell id be going mental to its there own bus why do you have to pay espically after not telling you id have ago to x
Apparantly it's for petrol - or that's what son said. It's the only reason I can think of too.

I remember at both secondary school and 6th form if you played in the school team then the school or college covered the cost of ferrying you to and from matches.
Mind you I've heard the local nursery that my son will be attending ask for contributions towards the cost of pencils etc so I really shouldn't be suprised. Clearly my council tax has risen 4.5% this year for nothing. Pre school is bad enough with the constant push for fundraising etc.
I am not sure I'd be livid but I'd be ringing the school for an explanation (and perhaps a little pointed to get it mentioned on the letters in future).
The school should cover the cost for ferrying them to and fro. Like I said, the school want the pupils to represent the school, so why should parents have to pay for it? Especially as it's during school hours.
I'm just pished because I know my son wouldn't have wanted to get into trouble for not paying (not that he would but you know the way kids think) so he used his lunch money. His lunch money was for his lunch, not to pay for something the school asked of him. If he hadn't paid today, they could have swung for it tomorrow cos they just wouldn't have got it from me.ds has to supply his own pencils or buy one from school at 20p each and he's only in year 3
I wouldn't be happy about having to pay for him to represent the school at a sport, surely they have a budget for those kind of things?
Well you'd think so wouldn't you?!
I've just asked son about it again and there was only him and one other lad who paid. Nobody else knew anything about it - which they wouldn't because nothing was mentioned on the letter! They were the ones who were told to bring it in tomorrow.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
Don't want to upset anyone, but maybe the contribution was to cover the cost of fuel from the Wirral to Preston.....it isn't a 5 mile drive down the M56 to the next school but one, it's at least a 100 mile round trip.2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

A journey which was during school hours and was something the school asked of the pupils - sorry, but even if it was a 200 mile round trip I'd still refuse to pay.
Oh now son's mentioned that the last tournament they had during school hours which was only in Sefton (so Liverpool) they were asked for £2 then too. Which he paid out of lunch money.
Now I AM angry, not with son though!Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
Not sure if i'm missing the point here or maybe i'm leaving myself open for abuse but why let your children do the activities if your going to moan about the cost? Ok i can understand the £2 wasn't stated in the letter, also Kahwilts been charged for lessons your child didn't take seems a bit extream if there were no lessons there and that should be taken up with the school.
But surely when educations free... Well it is for a public school then the odd few pounds here doesn't seem much? My little girl goes to school atm and parents are always been reminded of the 40p contribution to the weekly baking fund, so they get snack time with a bun or whatever they decide to make with it. Now they are saying they may need to withdraw this as not enough parents contribute seems crazy? Shame though.0 -

Again, if a school wants children to represent them, then they should fork out for any costs, ESPECIALLY during school hours.
Kahwilts, how old is your daughter?? Have to say, that Judo instructor sounds like a right bloody arrrss.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
Thats what i'm not getting though why should there be no cost? Sorry if i'm been blonde or something but surely the school still has to pay for petrol, insurance, maybe the extra member of staff that goes aswell. Maybe even the payment for the mini bus? Surely if you want your child to have the experience of playing rugby then the £2 is nothing? Also you say the trip was 11-5pm surely theres outside of school hours wages too?
Dunno maybe the school should just not enter the rugby leagues or whatever if they cant afford to fund it themselves?0 -
Actually I am kinda on Rachels side here... the only thing I WOULD complain about is the schools lack of communicating clearly to parents in writing that there would be a £2 charge. Obviously now you know so you can advise them that in future you don't want your son to take part in events away from the school if they are going to incur any costs to you or him
Easy peasy.
On principle yes I'd contest the money he's paid so far because I think they should have made that clear to you and they obviously didn't...DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

hi shellsuit please dont shoot me down here but schools dont have a bottom less pot of money to be quite honest im shocked at the lack of money they get,
i can see your point over not being told i think i would be a bit cheesed off too and because he used his lunch money,
when my daughter played netball for primary school we had to pay £1 per away match cant remeber a letter just my daughter coming home and saying

If they can afford to send out over 1000 letters first class once every few weeks, rather than hand them out, then I'm sure they must have £30 (15 lads, £2 each) hiding away to pay for whatever costs?? That's what annoys me most.
Why enter them without seeing what funds are available?
Why not ask parents first if they mind paying?Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0
