Absolutely fuuuuuuming!!!! (with school!) Have now calmed down ;-)

Son is in year 8 of high school and plays for the school Rugby team.

He brought a letter home 2 days ago to give permission for him to play today.

We live on the Wirral and the Rugby tournament was taking place today, in Preston, between 11am and 5pm.

Son has just got home now and told me that I'd forgotten to give him £2 for the mini bus.

What £2, I say?? No £2 mentioned on the letter.

He said that they were asked for £2 for the mini bus, so he gave it out of his lunch money (Which he only still had on him from Monday because the stupid bloody system for lunch where you put your money in a machine hasn't been working  )

Most of the kids didn't have the £2 so they were told to bring it in tomorrow.

Now I know it's only £2, but my God, if the school want pupils to represent them DURING SCHOOL HOURS, then they can bloody well pay for their own mini bus costs!

I'm not happy one little bit, infact I'm livid over it ~ is it just me or would this wind anyone else up??

By the way, it's the schools own mini bus, they don't have to hire one.

Not happy. Not one little bit.

I wouldn't be happy about that! They should mention it in the letter, infact you should challenge it.

I know its only £2, but its the principle.

I'd be fuming too, Shellsuit. No prior warning and their own bus?!

I'm gonna ring them in the morning. You're right, it's not the cost, it's the principle of the matter.

This is a school who, if they have a letter to come home, EVERY single one of them get posted 1st class. Why waste all that money??? Don't they trust their pupils with a piece of paper or something?

Another thing which bugged me, is that kids who played Rugby today and who get free school meals, had to take their own packed lunch. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm quite sure that if school take the kids out during school hours and it covers lunchtime, they have to provide a lunch for them?

Son doesn't have free meals, but that's just something else that bugged me.

No, nothing was mentioned about money on the letter. If it had, then I would have voiced my concerns beforehand and son wouldn't have had to dip into his lunch money, which I'm now going to have to replace for him.

Son has played in many Rugby matches for school, but they have always been straight after the school day - so 3.30-5.30pm.

On the odd occasions, they have gone from school in the mini bus and they haven't asked for any money, so why now and what for?

    Did he enjoy the rugby?
    Did they win?
Was he pleased to be chosen for the team?

sounds like a real boost to his self-esteem to be chosen.

The reality could be that if you kick up a fuss and refuse to pay, next time he might not get chosen. How will that make him feel?

Wow things appear to have changed since my days at school.
I remember at both secondary school and 6th form if you played in the school team then the school or college covered the cost of ferrying you to and from matches.
Mind you I've heard the local nursery that my son will be attending ask for contributions towards the cost of pencils etc so I really shouldn't be suprised. Clearly my council tax has risen 4.5% this year for nothing. Pre school is bad enough with the constant push for fundraising etc.
I am not sure I'd be livid but I'd be ringing the school for an explanation (and perhaps a little pointed to get it mentioned on the letters in future).

ds has to supply his own pencils or buy one from school at 20p each and he's only in year 3

I wouldn't be happy about having to pay for him to represent the school at a sport, surely they have a budget for those kind of things?

I'm not sure i'd be fuming but I have never known a school to ask for money for the use of a min-bus (as it is their own mini-bus).
