Vent about MSE

Whilst this is my all time favourite website I am becoming increasingly dismayed about the number of people posting very rude or arrogant responses to enquiries - and it seems to be on the increase. There's no need and it may well put people off posting questions. It completely undermines the spirit of MSE.

  • I'm glad someone else feels the same.

I love MSE & think it is really helpful. There are some really knowledgeable and helpful people on here. Unfortunately a large number of posters (or perhaps a small number of very vocal posters) seem to think it is ok to be rude to people who just come on for advice.

There are ways or putting forward your point of view without being rude and offending people.

Unfortunately there is little MSE can do accept ban certain people who may then come back on as a new user, just like the real world in life you always can get rude, arrogant or unsympathetic people

Sometimes posts can be interpreted the wrong way too

I agree with you I have had people being rude to me. But you have to try to let it go over your head, although I am quite sensitive so I find it hard. But on the other hand I was also accused of being "spiteful" I think that was the word they used because I said they are liable for paying tax on ebay profits. So I obviously offended someone - without meaning to.

It's like text messages isn't you could read it in a different way to how they mean it.

And then some people are just big fat meanies :D

    It works both ways.
There are lot of rude people on here, but equally there are plenty of posters who don't like the good responses they receive to their threads.

    The usual suspects are:

"Play.com sent me 2 Playstations How can I keep them"
"I want to defraud the benefits system, can you help me do it"
"Can I get another Credit card, trouser the cash and run off to Thailand for a couple of years"

As soon as they are picked up on their actions, they complain about 'how rude others are on mse, and its supposed to be helpful and friendly and their just picking on my cos I got 2 playstations innit'

Correct. If chancers are going to come on here and try to get away with breaking the law, or if they've messed up themselves but want to use their 'rights' and blame it on the company despite it being totally their own fault, then they deserve people being 'rude' to them.

I agree wholeheartedly with DKLS. I never cease to be amazed with folk who either come on here to vent with anger about a problem they have but then haven't even contacted the company involved to put it right or by those who expect something from a company that shouldn't be expected. For instance, wanting compensation for something terribly trivial.

We had a demand off a customer for compensation because he wasn't in when the postie called and so his parcel was taken back to the postal depot! We told him (nicely) that he could arrange for redelivery and there was no need to use petrol to go to the depot. We had a demand for a response by email by another customer within the hour because we hadn't responded to an earlier email. We had responded but they didn't get it (and a lot of people never check their junk email boxes before turning nasty).

I think generally there are a small group of people out there that expect something for nothing, equally there are a small group of people out there who think it is OK to be rude and name call (not just on MSE). However, there are lots of lovely people about who do play fair and who are polite and helpful. I suppose we just have to put up with the minority and hope that one day, something opens their eyes and they start behaving more appropriately.

If anyone's interested if Play.com sends you 2 Playstations (and assuming you haven't asked for them) then you are legally allowed to keep them and there's no requirement to contact Play.com first. Admittedly some people would consider this morally wrong but if you do keep them you haven't broken the law.

p.s. I'd like to confirm that Play.com have never sent me 2 Playstations, or even 1 Playstation for that matter.

For this to apply, play.com would have to:
    a) have sent you the second one deliberately,
    b) demanded payment from you for the second one.

Unsolicited goods does not mean goods sent by mistake.

There's another group IMHO - people who feel they've been wronged by a company and feel an injustice but don't know enough about the law to know how much/little they're entitled to. Regular example: the Sky man hasn't turned up when you've take a day off work and Sky have given you the usual B.S. about him being off sick etc, then people are rightly annoyed and think they're entitled to something for the inconvenience even if they haven't got a leg to stand on legally.

That's the group that should be educated in a friendly way, and not jumped upon by the people who think everyone's on the grab.

Though it has got better now certain posters are no longer around ;)
