Switched to Powergen on 23/2/06 to their capped rate to Oct 2007. Week later they announce their price rise! Phoned Customer Services who confirmed that as the switching process had already started I was OK. I'd never switched before so for me the switch is well worth it even with the price rise.0

I'm so sorry to hear this. Please don't suffer in cold conditions. Glad to hear that you have alterative fuel for heating and that you're planning to go abroad to warmer climes.
Good luck!Wealthsaving - a way of life?0 -
i am with powergen i have just asked for the rate to be capped but as my electric is prepay meter and my gas is quarterly they wont do it, its only for people on a dual fuel bill and as im renting i cannot change the electric meter so im stuck paying over the top prices. since i switched 2 yrs ago my electric bill has doubled so how can they estimate the average bill with this rise will only be 56 pound higher, :mad:0

Wholesale energy prices are 220% higher than in 2003.
The root of which lies here: "In February, the European Commission said some of Europe's biggest energy firms were holding back gas supplies and promised a crackdown on "anti-competitive behaviour".
UK owned and run power firms simply cannot get decent supplies until the european market is properly deregulated. We suffer because we're an island with very little gas resources.
This is price-fixing, but not by the UK companies - they end up being the middleman in the energy war, and they all have to buy their gas from the same place ie Europe.
We need to channel our aggression towards putting pressure on the government to do something about it.
Instead of going to war in Iraq , perhaps we should attack Europe, Epecally the French , to get control of the prices!

(Please note said with tounge firmly in cheek!!!)
Another thought. If the prices have been "fixed", will we get any refunds for the over charging? :rolleyes:The more I live, the more I learn.

I spoke to Powergen yesterday concerning capped rates, the rates given to me (including the current price hike) are:Non capped Electric, first 220 units 13.94 per unit the rest 8.35, capped rate 17.64 first 220 units the rest 8.768
Gas Non capped price 3.006 first 1143 units the rest 2.390, capped rate 4.556 first 1143 units the rest 2.510 so there is quite a difference between them. If the prices come down which I believe someone said earlier then what happens? does the user who opted to take the capped rate have the oportunity to come off the scheme or do they carry on paying the capped rate?0 -

Only if you're prepared to refund them if prices rise......A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort
