  • Can anyone help? We have tried to switch before but have run into difficulties because we have a metering system called "Domestic Heatwise" which provides cheaper overnight electricity for storage heaters. Not the same as Economy Seven. When we tried to change to Scottish Hydro they kept saying Powergen would not transfer us. It turned out that Scottish Hydro did not have the system to charge for the Domestic Heatwise meter. Is there anyone out there who also has Domestic Heatwise and has successfully changed suppliers?

Yes they can Rikki. People today have been mollycoddled. Children are far hardier than you think. My family, of which I was one of seven children, had nothing more than a fire in the living room. We were typical of thousands. All of us children grew up healthy and strong. Not a trace of asthma or illness between us

However old people should be able to stay warm

Can not believe the increase by powergen of 24% !!!!!!!! Daylight robbery.

What with Council tax due to go up next month may be 5 to 7% depending on where you live, and with petrol prices going sky high.

My wages only go up 4% a year, the cost of living goes up and we are worse of each year.

As for Powergen, I did look at switching last week and I would have been £7 worse of with London Electric over the year. Going to have to wait until everyone has done there price increases then I am jumping ship.

I am fed up with powergen, I submit my metre reading every 6 to 8 weeks, yet on every bill they always use estimates. At one point I was £300 in credit, now I down to £10 in debit and the monthly direct debit is going from £60 a month to £90.

and some peoples wage doesn't get up every year. If I was a electricity company owner, I would keep my rates the same so that a lot of people would switch to my company if you would market it rightly. Which would generate more profit for me.
But most companies only think about now...

Apologies if already posted. This is getting out of control!!!

All the Gas supply companies need to be severely reigned in and reprimanded by the regulators.

Also all consumers must write to their energy suppliers complaining and asking for time to make up the extra cost over a few months not all at once. That must be the reason for a competative wholesale gas market so the retail suppliers can smooth the prices. They have chosen or been prevented from buying gas at a reasonable price so they choose to pass the cost on in full or indeed well above fair rate.

Also if people have never switched from their current supplier, please, please look around for a cheaper supplier. There is bound to be one.

I take both my gas and electricity from the same supplier. I get a small discount for this dual fuel tariff. Also I get a wee discount for it being an internet service. In no way does this offset the huge increase in prices and once things settle I shall cast around for a cheaper supplier. I have written to my current supplier since they have re-assessed my monthly payment from around £40 per month to over £100 per month. If I do not hear back from them I shall take the next step and contact energywatch to seek help.

    Good luck everyone.

A tip i was given by the customer services last week when i complained about their website. If you cant submit your meter readings online (which i cant), email the meter readings through the 'contact us' link. Then when you submit your readings, ask them to send you an additional bill to your home address, using the readings you have submitted. You should in theory get an up to date bill of what you owe or by some miracle what they owe you.

I was assured, i would not be charged for this. I shall be doing this when i submit my readings in a day or two.
