Hayley - you could be in a better position to report Graham White / Michael Sobell to the SRA. Their scam is pathetic.

You can actually talk to Sobell if you persist enough on the phone.
Thanks Alex V - the SRA is my next step - I certainly haven't finished with these people just yet !

Just as a matter of interest, has anyone ever complained to the Law Society about this Michael Sobell aka Graham White, given there is a "respectable" firm with the same name?
I have now sent in a complaint to the SRA about Mr Sobell and his firm Graham White Solicitors. Would be a very good idea if as many other people could do the same.
  • i parked in the village where i lived in a disabled spot which i know i shouldn't however there is one street which is where all the shops are and i had know where else to park anyway ran into the shop for literally 2 minutes and i got a ticket from central ticketing of course i appealed. I then received a letter from rooxxburgh debt collectors, then a letter from graham white solicitors exactly the same as yours and then a final reminder! i am so unsure what to do about this it, they must ring me every other day also. I was wondering what happened with yoursel. Also my friend also got a ticket for parking in the same spot and she received a letter from the debt collectors over a year ago and nothing else so why is it they've forgot about her, very strange

They will give up in the end.

    Just ignore them.
I all have learnt is from others on many sites.
    Seek legal help if unsure.
Dont pay Private Parking tickets - they are mere invoices.

    PRESS THANKS

I have highlighted in bold, why I suspect you are getting more letters than your friend - you appealed?! Why appeal a scam ticket, they are hardly going to say 'oh OK don't pay us then...'

It never was a real fine. Private Parking Company (PPC) tickets are a scam, never pay them.

The Central Ticketing letter-chain is shown here, you should have ignored the ticket and all letters:

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/....php?t=2214803

You can see that you haven't been singled out and you were falling for their scam slightly, by appealing. All their letters are just standard computer-generated letters that you could have safely ignored. See the recent episode of Watchdog where they showed what to do with PPC tickets:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XAIcdi9niHA

But because you appealed and they got your phone number (or they got it from the DVLA) they are now using it. I do hope you are not giving them the time of day?!

To attempt to stop it completely, you must state next time the idiots call you, that any debt is 'expressly denied'. Then tell them that because they have been informed the debt is denied, they must now pass the file back to the originator.

Don't discuss why it's denied. It's none of their business. If they won't let it lie then tell them that you consider any further contact to be harassment and you reserve the right to pursue their law-breaking under the Protection from Harassment Act.

  • Hi im new to this site i found it after i typed in Graham White Solicitors. I have receved phone calls and letters from the Soclitor claiming i owe 471.27 for a mobile phone bill i owed 6 years ago. However i settled this with the company 6 years ago. It was a mistake on there behalf. I have now receved a letter saying we have been instructed by Debt Collector specialists Roxbrough uk limited acting on behalf of HFO CAPITAL LIMTED. Also goes on to say they will send a baylift round if i don not pay straight away. Can they legally do this? as far as im concerned i do not owe anything!
    Advice would be apprecheated
    Thank you

"Also goes on to say they will send a baylift round if i don not pay straight away."

Are you positive it says this ?

We need to see the exact wording of this letter, paraphrasing is fraught with problems.

As a general point it sounds as though you are at least being severely misled by this letter.
If it is over 6 six years then it is very probably time expired.
Do you have proof of settling with the phone company ?
Debt collectors have no powers whatsoever.
Bailiffs cannot attend absent a court decision.
This Graham White Solicitors is well known for operating near, and arguably over, the limits.
As such they will not be interested in anything you have to say.

    Hi Callum,
Well this isn't the right forum as this is about parking fines, but here's a link showing what you do about harassment by such idiot debt collectors:

    http://www.nationaldebtline.co.uk/england_wales/factsheet.php?page=03_harassment

Read that factsheet carefully, it should tell you what to do in your case.

  • please can you tell me where i stand.

I parked my car (which was as the time owned and registered with my dad) near my flat. My car was parked on a bridge which is part of public road on the edge of the development which is enforced by security soulutions wilsmlow. My car was actually on the public road. there was a sign advising that a valid 2 hour permit needs to be shown when on the development. my car was in line with the sign ( not actually on the development).

I got a parking fine for 'not showing a valid permit'. It was on a Saturday night and noticed the ticket after arriving back from a meal in town. I sent an e-mail to the address on the back of the notice advising that i would not pay as my car was on a public highway and they had no right to enforce a fine. I got an e-mail back the next day saying that my appeal had been rejected as we have evidence confirming your were contravening the signs on display. They sent me 2 pictures (both of which were not my car) as so called evidence. after reading some posts i decided i would ignore any future correspondance and refuse to pay.

In the end my dad actually recieved letterd first from roxborough and then again from graham white requesting payment and threatening legal action. this was becasue he was registered as the keeper. as you can imagine he was not best pleased so i phoned the solicitor and gave them my details and address and advised them that it was nothing to do with him. they confirmed all futute correspondance would be addressed to me.

I am a bit worried as this means i have now identified myself as the driver, would this affect my chances in either ignoring all future letters or any threatened legal action in court.

Basically have i f****d up by identifying myself as the driver.

any help on this would be appreciated.

    P.S sorry for the essay

From now on just ignore. You have done nothing wrong and you don't owe them a penny. These companies are all threat and no action. Just sit tight and everything will be OK.
