MONEY MORAL DILEMMA. Would you flog hideous store cards to keep a job?

In a word, no. I know that someone else will take the job and do it, but I would at least know it wasn't me. It is unethical.0

I would sell them with a CLEAR conscience. If they cant be bothered to read the small print which tells them that there is a 30% APR then that is their problem.
I was in loads of debt years ago all because I didn't ask enough questions or bother to read the small print. Just wanted to live now and pay later. So if other people choose to do the same let them get on with it!!!!!0 -
I don't see how this is a dilemma.
Surely it would be part of my job so I would do it.
Either that or look for another job sharpish!
Most people are smart enough to refuse, I wouldn't have one. But I suppose they can be used strategically, say to exploit a 20% off offer or something. Buy in bulk, use the card, get the money off then don't use it again?
Although I don't know how store cards even work because I always give them a wide berth"You ATE your nest egg? You're meant to sit on your nest egg until it hatches, not eat it like some greedy mad chicken!" :rotfl:Mark Corrigan, Peep Show0 -
nope would not sell them, they are a rip off0

In those circumstances I would sell them but I would advise those who want one that the interest rate is high and so statements ought to be paid on time and in full to get the full benefit. The rest will be up to them.
Store cards usually come with a sign up discount and future offer/discount possibilities. So, carefully managed, or just applied for on a day that you are buying lots (and so would benefit from the discount) could be a helpful thing for some youngsters. It is then up to them to have the will power not to use it again!0 -
In my old job I used to have to sell extended warranties. I slept soundly at night knowing that at no point was any customer forced in to anything, and that it wasn't up to me to protect them from themselves! ABSOLUTELY EVERYONE'S job ultimately relies on people selling things to other people!0

i'd try selling the card BUT i'd advice the customer to read the t&c's so they make sure they understand everything and do it in a friendly manner, not force them into submission. after all, that is what im getting paid to do![STRIKE]Beggars cant be choosers, but savers can![/STRIKE]That used to be the case :mad:0

I was offered a job like this by one of my promotional agencies last week...
I swiftly declined!0 -
I wouldn't sell them. Full Stop. When I am shopping, I particularly warn the managers not to offer me their latest card or gimmic. Some managers persist, so I make them repeat what they have just said, just to be sure. I use a pained deaf expression if they try to say it quickly thus making them talk slower and louder. I explain that I had them repeat it because I didn't believe what they had proposed. I then walk out of the shop and leave them their goods. I am never that bothered about shopping that I wouldn't go elsewhere.
I put a value on the gimmic - be it a no interest introductory loan etc and demand it as a discount then I follow the above procedure for managers.
Staff luckily usually listen and don't make the offer but I don't go out of my way in any event with minimum wagers.
Some of us are able to judge shops by these indices and stay real.0 -
