    I would!
I'd tell them the interest is ridiculous so just use it to get the initial discount (assuming there is one) and pay it off then cut it up ;)
I have a friend who sold credit cards at the airport, she got commission even if the person applying got denied, she told them that and most who knew they'd get denied applied anyway just to be nice to her :A

  • Been there in a department store and SOLD SOLD SOLD! BUT I told every customer that when the bill comes through you have to pay off in full. I made sure I took the time, unlike other staff, to warn and remind the customer to pay in full, or the 10% discount they got today would be wiped out by the interest! I really did hammer it in! After they signed the dotted line, but still think I can have a clear conscience on it!

  • And no, not much commission, most the time nothing/pat on the back. sometime £2 bond, best ever was competition for most sold in one day & I got £10 giftcard for my store. 90% of time your just being threatened by management to sell!

My last job was doing this, I had many a "meeting" with my manager for not getting enough people signing up.

I'm just not very good at sales to be honest. And most people are very wary of getting credit, especially in times like these. It was like drawing blood from a stone most of the time.

I'd do it to feed my family. I would feel no more guilty about selling them the card than i would about selling them an item in-store that i knew was cheaper elsewhere. It's not my problem if they are too lazy and/or cash saturated to be bothered doing a bit of leg work before purchasing something. The opportunity to save money is there now in a way that it was never before. If people choose to ignore it, more fool them.
It's called 'learning the hard way'.
  • I'd sell 'em. I'd speak to some understanding friends who have no intention of using such things. Drinks on me on pay day.

So long as you explain properly the pitfalls with the card (interest rates), and the way to best use them (intro offers are usually pretty good), you have covered yourself. Then it is up to the individual to use it as they see fit - you cannot be criticised if they get themselves into debt, because it is up to the individual to spend in a sensible manner.

Too many people seem to blame the banks for lending them too much money, without actually looking at the fact that they wanted to spend spend spend and not consider the debt they were getting into.
  • A few years ago my best friend who was only 18 got convinced by a sales person to get a store card. She stupidly did it because she was a student and didn't realise how high the interest on them is. It ended up costing her 300 pounds for a 38 pound cardigan! She had to be bailed out. Although she was naive I don't forgive the person who sold her the card. I wouldn't do it because often the only people stupid enough to take them are students who have no way of paying them off.
  • I would just explain that you can take advantage of the great discount you normaly get when taking one of these things out then pay it off at the month then cut it up.

That way you get the sale and they get a discount on their purchases and everyone wins.:D

    just noticed this post.
I have 2 store cards but i am not stupid with them i just pay of the balance at the end of the month and take advantage of the great offers i get through the post such as 20% off shoes. As long as your careful and pay it off when you get the statement come through there are no problems.
