It is highly unlikely they would touch your barclay card , but they could, saying that it would not be in there best interest .Wish I could stop editing EVERY post I make :mad:0 -

Is it now a case of waiting for the statements to arrive or should I contact the banks direct if I have not had any confirmation that they received my request?
the last thing I want to happen is for me to wait 40 days then get in touch with them, only to find out they are denying receiving the DPA letter
what do you think??Wish I could stop editing EVERY post I make :mad:0 -
Hi everyone. I just watched martin on GMTV. My husband and I bank with halifax and have many problems with them. Our problems first started when a DD came ou earlier than expected and it has just snowballed from there. We try very hard to keep our account upto date, but when we are getting charged £39 for returned DD's then £28 because when they took the charges it made s have an unauthorised overdraft we just cant seem to catch ourselves up. i tried to open an account with another bank, but due to our now very poor credit rating I could only get a casic account with no debit card. I use my debit card very rarely but find it helpful occationally for paying bills over the phone, I also very rarely go into town so need a cash card I can use in different machines. The account I was given had a card I could only use in the banks own machines. I would love to try to claim back some of our charges but daren't when I cant seem to get another suitable account. We are desparate to get out of Halifax but don't know wher eto go from here any advice would be greatly received.0

Because of the programme this morning CAG is off line so I am unable to log in and get information for you but I know for sure that many others have been in your position with opening another account. When the site is back up you can go in and do a search and you will see what accounts they have opened.
Sorry at this time I can't give you the exact information you are looking for , but it is there if you look

I was sent to their debt collection agency and had i think 3200 or something left to pay. They offered for me to pay 2000 and the debt be cancelled. I can't remember the exact wording or anythin or signing anything.
My barclaycard is 0% for about another 9 months so that would be my worry with that.0 -
I looked on cag and there seems no bank that will give a debit card (proper one not visa electron) and overdraft to people with poor credit ratings.0

Sadly, that is the case. The country is being propped up by people living beyond their means - a knock on effect I imagine the banks love. According to Which!, 1 in 4 are paying utility bills on credit - lovely for the banks, not so nice for the country or the people living in it.
If you can't get credit, the bank will just hold on to your money for longer as they won't be able to make money our of you paying your bills on their credit cards.0 -
Hi all Ive watched martin this morning (but only caught the last few minutes of his slot). Now from what i kinda picked up .My Bank "N/West" whom ive never had any overdraft facility.Loans,Credit Card in four years, have been slapping my rr`s, with the £30, and £90 charge`s i get monthly or so.
This been happening for the last 4 years, Now remember (ive no way of overdrawing) though i do have an ebay account which does charge me the odd £1.50p the 3 times ive sold somthing (this the only DD i have) So all my CHARGES are the bank chargeing me to pay the bank Charges, and so on,
£30.00 at the begining of month, £30.00 at end, and then it begins again
£30.00 for being overdrawn last month, and £30.00 for the managers party.
This all started when thet suckered me into a DIS-AVANTAGE GOLD account, they always managed to withdraw there fee`s the same day as my monthly wages went in. I ditched this after a year or so, but then last year, i i was coearsed into reopening it again, even though my wages are now weekly payed in now, they still manage to get the end of month charges for last month in the day b4 the last friday in every month.
Have i understood Martins show correctly (is this the scam he`s on about)
as i know Nat west are nasty gits when they get enquirys about there charges, ive enquired b4, been told i cant close account or i`ll be blacklisted
for unpaid charges` I know it seems a petty amount £30.00 ish a month with the odd £90.00 every 4 months or so, but with a £260 pay packet for me and the wife and 3 kids its a strain on us,I once enquired about a overdraft but was told No ! "your always overdrawn" cheeky gits (its there charges i`m always overdrawn on) as i cant any other way.0 -
Check out https://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk - the site Martin mentioned - if they 'blacklist' you for closing your account when you have outstanding charges, then they are acting unlawfully.
All is explained over at the CAG site (which is now back up and running).0 -
Hi Thanks for the excellent article, however i am still a bit confused !
I currently have an authorised overdraft of £3000.00 (which i am always in !) plus a loan remainder of over £3000.00 all from the same bank.
Can you apply to claim back these charges from authorised overdrafts, or does it have to be unauthorised?
Also if I can claim, what will happen to my overdraft and loan remainder? As I cannot pay it back straight away, nor do I qualify for a loan elsewhere !
Thanks in anticipation
