And at least they can't close your account if it is already closed :rotfl:

Let us know how you go on, I am now doing the same after reading through posts, web sites etc. etc. I feel aggrieved about the banks, and positive about the support people are giving each other.0 -
Just about to start on step 1.
The consumeractiongroup site says to send the request for list of charges letter to the address my bank has registered with the Data Protection Commissioner. i.e. not my local branch.
My search of LLoyds TSB ank PLC gave me the following address
25 Gresham Street, LONDON, EC2V 7HN.
Reading the thread would suggest that people are sending the letter to their local branch rather than anywhere else.
Any suggestions?0 -
A and L settled out of court with me andrefunded all my bank charges, i was initially very pleased as i thought id managed to keep the account also, but i too received a letter the other day saying they are closing it on 12 june and seperate arrangements will be made for me to repay my overdraft of £650
heres the bit that hurts, for the first time in a longgg time i have spare cash left over this month, due to a combination of moneysaving, new job, ocertime etc and have an extra 700 quid at the end of this month, i was sooooo looking forward to spending it on some necessities and stuff for te house but NOW AL want 650 of it :-(
needless to say i cant spend it in case i have to pay it to AL, can they close the account just like that?benmills wrote:This is a long thread - hope I’m in the right place.
I successfully reclaimed unfair bank charges in the county court from A and L. A week later, they write to say because I cannot accept their terms and conditions they are closing my account in 28 days.
I have written to The OFT to say that as they have announced penalty charges are unfair - I have the right to reclaim them, this action from the bank is unfair and undermines their own findings, and please can they investigate.
I have also posted this on the Bank action group. I’m not sure if anybody else has had this experience but I will post the findings of the OFT here.
Bit of a roller coaster!

Somebody a while back in this thread asked what the situation was outside of the UK - just for interest obviously.
I have a French current account - as I spend a lot of time in France in the year. The French have a system set up whereby, if you write a cheque for money you don't have in your account at that specific time, you can have the facility to run a current account at all removed for a defined period (I think it's a year). I have a suspicion that on the first misdemeanour you might get a stern warning but it comes into force after that on a repeat.
It's a very tough rule but it has the inevitable, wonderful merit that it works! Just think of all the problems it would solve if it was in operation in this country! It would have reduced the posts on this thread by 75% at least!!0 -
Just got £80 refunded :T0

my husband paid out a fortune to the halifax in charges while trying to get himself out of debt. i finally managed to get him straight and he then closed his account. as the account is closed is it to late to try and claim them back. he also got rid of most of his statements as they were too painful to look at!!0

I've been charged £27.50 by The Woolwich for their direct debit request bouncing. It did not result in late payment - I still have till the end of the month to pay. The fee is admin to cover the cost of them sending a letter to tell me the DD bounced!
I've told them this though on the day of the DD (after). I am able to pay ASAP and however they wish! But still they want the £27.50.
From upthread it seem this is the same case as with CC but obviously I'm in a worse position - I can't move mortgage provider now for example.
What are my options? They don't want to offer me some goodwill...
Thanks0 -
hhobba wrote:Hi there. I am a student banking with Natwest. I purchased an item using Direct Debit from PayPal for £4.50 on the 22nd Feb, and the charge was not debited until the 28th Feb. During this time my funds became insufficient for this £4.50, although I did attempt to remedy this by being transferred £25.00 from a friend's account which I thought would only take 1 day. This £25.00 came into my bank on the same day that my £4.50 PayPal was taken out, although apparantely the £25.00 did not count as part of my balance since it has to be at least 1 working day in advance to count. So I was still "insufficient" for the £4.50.
I have been charged £38.00 in total (I think that includes the £4.50) for this.
Since I am in Scotland, can I contest this? Can someone point me to a piece of legal document which I can read to Natwest on the telephone so they are perfectly aware of what I am saying? Even the name of a document I can reference.
Any help is SO much appreciated. Thanks!!!
https://www.bankcharges.info is extremely good for advice on Scots Law. In actual fact it is more help with English law than the bank charges hell site on some points.0 -
Hi first posting so bear with me - I do my banking over the internet with Abbey National and have just discovered that i went over my overdraft for 1 day to the tune of £19.19 - for this discretion they want to charge me £80!!!!!! I phoned them as soon as i realised and they have graciously agreed to drop £50 leaving a charge of £30 still outstanding - I tried to tell the woman on the phone that this is ilegal but she said it is in the terms of the overdraft and therefore legal - is she right - can i still claim back the charges if they are listed in the contract? Also how much can I claim back? Is there an amount they can stilll charge?
I would be gratefull for any help as this is not the first time this has happened and frequently gives me nightmares0
