I don't see any problem heating the hotdogs in the kettle (just make sure you rinse it out properly if you want a cuppa later!)
Pot Noodle is always a good one for hotels, not the most nutritious, although, once in a while as a treat shouldn't do any harm. Also, batchelors do pasta pots that only need hot water and they are not too bad, I usually keep one in my drawer at work for emergencies.
    Enjoy your holiday x

Thanks for your replies. We really don't want to eat out partly to keep costs down but also we're going to be making the most of the hotel pool etc and won't feel like going off out to find somewhere to eat. I was thinking of just pouring boiled water over the hot dogs and leaving for a while - don't fancy actually putting inside the kettle lol!

Hadn't thought of pasta pots etc but will probably pack a couple of them too.

Do you have a good flask you could store hot hot dogs in until dinner time? If there is a hairdryer at the hotel you could try heating hot dogs with it though I've never actually tried this!
Bring some couscous with herbs in it in a big tupperware (or flask) and add water from the kettle, put the lid on for a few mins and then you'll have hot flavoured couscous to go with your hot dogs.

How about couscous? Flavoured packet ones just need hot water pouring over them and leaving for a little while. Perhaps take a tupperware box with a lid to make it in.

You can boil an egg in the kettle - just prop the lid open slightly to stop it turning off all the time and make sure it doesn't boil dry.

Hot dog sausages should warm up fine in hot water - make sure you take a container that is long/deep enough for them though. Also, pot noodles only need boiling water, as does cous cous. Not sure what you can do with that combination, but I am sure you could make a meal with the addition of bread and/or salad!

Another idea with cous cous would be peppers, onions, sweetcorn (etc) chopped boiled egg and some sandwich meat to make a cous cous salad. Fairly light, but if you had something like a cuppa soup as a starter it should be enough.
    Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!

Thanks - couscous is sounding like a winner. Am thinking chickpeas, courgettes, peppers, onions, corriander and spices etc all cooked and chopped - can just mix this in with the boiling water so it will be warmish and maybe have some pittas and houmous with it. Much more appetising than hotdogs!

Thanks again for the idea - I knew I could look to OS for some inspiration!

Couscous would be my top option (the Ainsley Harriot ones are very well seasonedall in one packet ready to just add hot water if you want an easy option) and I love them for lunch with any of the following: fresh chopped tomato, carrot, radish, tinned chickpeas, or tinned sweetcorn. All of which could be taken along fresh (as could plenty of other veg options) so no worries about keeping pre-cooked food cold/fresh.

I also like tuna or tinned mackerel or sardines with it, or if you want meat how about a sliced Mattesons sausage added in it (you know those vacuum packed u shaped ones) they have more flavour than hot dogs.

Forgot to add... You can freeze the tub of houmous you take with you so that is stays as fresh as possible if you don't have a refrigerator available for it.
A waist is a terrible thing to mind.
  • 10p noodles; in a plastic sandwich box - pour hot water over. Take gravy granules in a flask, add hot water to make a sauce [+ curry powder to make curry sauce], pour over drained noodles [they take 3 mins].
Done this for years when travelling round and not wanting to spend a fortune.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.
  • I would take a fruit cake and a knife too, or fresh fruit.

Could you use the drinks fridge to keep a home-made meal cool for 24 hours?
