I've never seen a fridge in a Travelodge, but then I haven't stayed in them all.

In Liverpool there was a menu for a delivery Indian. I'm not sure whether this is usually allowed and whether you should ask or try to sneak the takeaway in and maybe not appropriate for lunch, but it seemed like a good economic plan to me for dinner in a travelodge. (You would need to preplan with plates, forks and spoons.)

Depending on the weather, if it is lovely and warm like at present I'd consider lunch at Wetherspoons, or a cooked breakfast there to fill you up the next day... or maybe if it's warm it would be better to buy fresh bread and sandwich filings there? If you check it out on the internet you should be able to locate what will be nearby i.e which supermarkets and make a rough plan i.e. ham salad if that would suit the whole family, maybe splash out a little bit on premade filling, like cheese savory. (Depends if you like that.)

It is def a good idea to take pot noodles and crisps maybe chocolate as the vending machines sell chocolate and crisps and can be very tempting, and very expensive.
  • Hi,

I stayed in a Travelodge at Christmas, £9 a night, and this was my Christmas dinner, yummy, and all for less than a £1.

What about finding a supermarket cafe such as Tesco and having an English brekkie on the Sunday? A cooked breakfast should fill you till at least afternoon, and probably wouldn't cost any more than food items for breakfast and lunch that day. For breakfast on Saturday I'd go for items like croissants or cereal bars to eat before going to the wedding.

Agreed, I used the local Asda for breakfast in St Austell, cheap & cheerful but cheaper & with more choice the TL

Eggs can be boiled in a kettle. Doesn't do the kettle much good in the long run, but should be fine for occasional use. They go well in egg sandwiches or as part of a picnic type meal.
    Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!
  • 1) Travel Kettle plus adapter (if not already supplied by hotel)
    2) Plastic Cutlery - these are an absolute essential when travelling, and they get through airport security. So plastic spoons, knife and fork are all OK. I always try to have at least 2 plastic spoons in my bag, for the quick yoghurt, cuppa tea, etc in transit .... Of course (needless to say to all you experienced Oldstyle Moneysavers) - I do not throw out my plastic cutlery I wash, dry and re-use them! Also I don't actually buy any plastic cutlery - I save them from airports, restaurants, supermarket express, etc .... :)
    3) Consumables; tea bags, coffee sachets (saved from my last hotel visit), sugar sachets (ditto), packet of biscuits, fruit, milk/water/drink, yoghurt. I bring these with me, except the milk/water/drink and yoghurt which I buy locally from a supermarket.

DH, DS (3) and I are going to Drayton Manor and are staying in a hotel the night before. I'm doing a packed lunch to eat on the way up and for the next day at the theme park. We have breakfast included at the hotel but was wondering what to do for dinner.

I'd rather have something hot really and am wondering if the tinned hotdog sausages can be heated in boiling water (from the kettle)?

Any other ideas on hotel room cooking would be welcome!
