Now annoyingly he's only being given some funding towards his hotel costs after, so he's had to book in a budget place so has your basic tea and coffee provisions and nothing else.

    cheers

I thought he is getting reimbursed, but the timing of money coming in is an issue?

Instant mash, pasta/couscous pots, cuppa soups.

Take a cool bag, food might not last too long in it, but most should last a few days, where he can have salads and cold meat keep some milk in there too.

Me and OH have had hotel room picnics before with rotisserie chicken, wraps, salad, mozzarella, olives etc was very filling and yummy.

We have also sneaked a toastie maker in to a room before and used it to make toasties, and warm things up. It was one of the flat toastie makers with no design on the plates and I've also cooked on it(at home though) Mushrooms, onions, peppers, halloumi etc.

But yeah, getting caught would suck so he'd have to be very sneaky!

Can he bring a toaster to use? I recently discovered toasting bags - absolutely brilliant - from the pound shop. Withe the bags you can make toasted sandwiches, heat up slices of pizza, heat up cornish pasties (might be a bit squashed:p) heat up sausage rolls. I haven't done this but you could even cook could chips in them. One thing I tried the other day which was absolutely lovely was tortilla bread, spread with butter, cheese, and ham. Rolled up and toasted in the the toasting bags. Lovely!

Other idea, could you borrow a George foreman grill from somewhere???
  • Seriously - people bringing in electrical appliances & butane camping cookers - what on earth are you thinking??!

Just last week while I stayed in a Travelodge & the people next to me brought a toastie maker. It set off the smoke alarms although he brought an extension lead & put it under the window with it open. The entire floor smelled like toast & guess what? He was kicked out! Good riddance!

Both would set off the fire alarm, not only would this most likely end up with him thrown out, it would be a disturbance to other guests who would have to vacate the hotel.
  • And I'd think using butane would get you some jail time tbh..is it worth it?!

I would'nt bother with all the sneaking around, trying to prepare food in a kettle, toaster, butane stove etc etc, for 1 person eating out is not expensive, as others have said, fish & chips, pie or sandwich from supermarket, local cafes etc ......at least that way he won't get thrown out of the hotel x
