I would add tinned chickpeas and beans
And hotdogs if he likes them?If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
I'd be careful, as if they find out he's stashing electrical equipment the hotel could ask him to leave. This happened to a friend who booked one of the budget chains as he was there for a while. He took a mini fridge and microwave , the housekeeper mentioned it to the manager who asked him to leave without a refund. It's not just the safety aspect, the room will smell of food and grease gets everywhere so they also lamped him with a £100 cleaning bill.
If the hotel's agreed a microwave he might need to buy a microwave cook book and buy things fresh as and when. Sorry I'm not much more help, but would hate for him to be in the same situation!0 -
Not sure if there is a T Express or mini Marks near his training location or between there and the hotel? These small ones often are heavily stocked for the lunch crowd, so around 5 PM at mine the end of date stuff gets massively reduced, such as sandwiches, salads, etc. (The 'other' stuff such as meat goes on a later reduction schedule.)
If you're not particular at mine, there is always some type of sandwich or salad at 75% off, some even make it to 80-90% off at 630 PM. There's usually some fruit too at this time.
Might become boring due to the repetition, but I've seen people working night shift pick up a sandwich and piece of fruit for 50-80p total for later in the evening.
My larger Mr T's has a hot foods counter--roast chicken, pies, single pizza slices, etc. and is up to 50% off by 6 PM and closes down the counter at 7 PM, so everything that is left goes 90% off. Most of these are 'grab and go' lunchtime items, so perfect for a 1 person dinner.0 -
I was going to suggest the hot counter at supermarkets. Seems a bit off though for his employers to not be offering enough funding for him to stay in a hotel where his meals are included or offering a daily meal allowance?0

Until you hear a response from the hotel, it's hard to know what they'll allow. I've never heard of a hotel allowing more than tea/coffee making facilities and perhaps getting in a take away if they don't offer evening meals themselves.
I'd suggest he has a large breakfast, has a good lunch (hopefully provided at the training course) and then eats light in the evening. I have done this myself. So something like crackers and dairylea with a cuppa soup then some cake/biscuits with tea or coffee. If he's had two meals already then he doesn't need another cooked one in the evening. If he's really starving then he could always go out and and get a bag of chips.0 -
Is there an Ike@ close by? He could get a hot meal for a pound or so.I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
I hate to rain on anyone's parade but butane gas camping stoves, hot plates and the like are banned in most student halls of residence for very good reason - they're a huge health and safety risk and may set off the fire detectors (many of them are heat rather than smoke detectors).
If you get caught bringing in electrical appliances which haven't been tested for safety you risk being thrown out of the hotel/fined for setting off the fire alarm.
Your husband's company should be giving him a food allowance if he's away for that long - has he discussed this with them?
My dad works away during the week, his pay isn't great but he does at least get £10 a day for a food allowance when he stays overnight.
You can claim a tax rebate on any money your OH does spend, see http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/manuals/eimanual/eim31815.htm so make sure he keeps all of his receipts!“I want to be a glow worm, A glow worm's never glum'Coz how can you be grumpy, when the sun shines out your bum?" ~ Dr A. It doesn't state that the OPs partner is working, he may be funding the training himself. Agree that if the training is for work he should be getting reimbursed.0

I agree - camping stove in a hotel? That is absolute madness. That is asking for a ban from that hotel for life.
I would be surprised if he was allowed to take microwave, but that would be possibly the only appliance (apart from kettle) I would allow if it was my hotel. But I doubt they will, it is often the smells they are also worried about etc. You can do a lot with microwave. We will have to wait and see if he is allowed one.
I agree with hot counters at supermarkets being very good option. Piece of hot chicken - in a baguette, on a salad, with avocado.. with instant mash made with boiling water.
Then you often get saussages - the same as above applies.
Ribs
Some Tesco sells hot curries
Caffes at Morrisons and Asda are quite cheap.0
