You could take some sachets of instant porridge with you and if you have any dried fruit at home, pack some small quantities to either go in the porridge or eat as snacks if you get the munchies. You could take a pack of crispbreads and some of the spready cheese triangles that are individually packed, they don't need a fridge. If you don't mind tins, you could opt for a tin of ravioli or macaroni cheese as your main meal and buy a bag of mixed salad to go with it, also perhaps a bread roll and then some fresh fruit for pudding. That should keep you under your budget. Cuppa soups are handy for a warm snack if the weather is cold and you would have the crispbreads to go with them. Make sure to take a bowl and a spoon with you, and a knife would be handy for spreading or you'll be eating your porridge out of a cup! Good Luck.0

When I went away I took plastic bowl, spoon and knife and fork. I bought a box of cereal and just got a small carton of milk each evening for breakfast next morning. The milk stayed cold in the bathroom stood in cold water. Crackers and cheese spreads are quite handy I dont mind eating them without butter.0

Do you have a food flask? If so, you could microwave something at the venue and take it back to the hotel and eat it later. I used to do this with soups/stews/pasta in sauce. It will keep very hot. Hotels don't mind at all; it isn't smuggling and in my experience they are used to it. Or try stopping for something at the end of the day in the supermarket hot food section, like a chicken portion or sausage roll. Often they are reduced and lovely with a salad bowl from the salad section. Porridge sounds a great idea for breakfast.0

Thanks all! Just been rummaging through my cupboards to see what I can take...
Mrs Lurcher, yes I already have sachets of porridge at home and lots of bags of various dried fruits so I can take those. I have some plastic cutlery from my school days and some Crackerbreads/ Ryvitas as well as a few boxes of Cup-a-Soups lurking in the back of a cupboard.
I've got a packet of instant vegaetable couscous too that I could have with a piece of reduced to clear hot chicken as Valerie has suggested! Valerie - no foodflask unfortunately (although my Dad bought two about 9 years ago for me and him when I was at school and for him to take to work but can't trace them lol! What I have got is a thermos insulated coffee mug... I wonder if I could heat up a healthy soup in the microwave at the venue and it would still keep warm in the mug for me getting back to the hotel for dinner...
Andy - that's what I'm planning on doing for teas and coffees, buying a pint of milk and standing it in the sink in cold water!
I see mugshots are 2 for £1 at Tesco! My Mum has also offered to save a portion of Sunday Lunch for me and have it heated up for me coming off the motorway on Sunday Night :j. So, I just need a light lunch on Sunday now. I'm not buying Danishes for breakfast now as have found an unused box of cereal bars in the cupboard to have along with my porridge!
Hopefully, I'll come in well under budget.0 -

Yes, she is lovely lol. I have seen the tinned tuna salad and funny enough I've considered getting one, I think they even sell them in the £ shop! Thanks, Lyn!

Sorry if the wrong section but I couldn't for the life of me think where to put this.
My OH is going to be living in a hotel for 6-7 wks whilst he's away on some training. Now annoyingly he's only being given some funding towards his hotel costs after, so he's had to book in a budget place so has your basic tea and coffee provisions and nothing else. We cannot afford for him to be buying food out every night as over 7 wks this will clearly add up (obviously when he does he'll be using any offers available) so I've been searching for a few idea's and come up with the following:
Somewhere we have a mini fridge so hopefully we can dig that out and sneak it into his room to store a few fresh things.
We have a halogen oven and a rice cooker which I've heard of people cooking all sorts in other than rice. And as the rice cookers a lot lighter and easier to move I think this might be better.
He's asked the hotel if he could bring a microwave but I don't know how practical this is as we'd have to buy a small one anyway.
Anyone any other idea please? Or any good simple meal suggestions for the above. Obviously he's going be able to store very little and I'd like to make him up a little box of things to save him faffing about as much as possible.

I very much doubt he will be allowed a fridge, microwave or rice cooker due to fire safety.
If the room has a kettle there are a lot of meals you can make with just boiling water, he could buy cereal and use UHT milk, or make porridge with boiled water for his breakfast.0 -
I've done this. Extension cable, steamer used in the bathroom. Can do veg, protein and pasta/ rice. Clean it every night and pack in suitcase. Dispose of food waste outside the hotel. Buy fresh every day.2021 GC £1365.71/ £24000

Does he have any say in where he stays? If he does, then see if he can rent a small apartment, my old boss used to do this as he was away so much. I can't remember the website he used, but it frequently worked out cheaper than a hotel, especially in central London. As he used to say, you can't get beans on toast in a hotel when you want them.Good enough is good enough, and I am more than good enough!:j
If all else fails, remember, keep calm and hug a spaniel!0
