BEWARE RAPPORT LOCKS CERTAIN KEYS IN YOUR WINDOWS REGISTRY
The aim apparently is to protect Rapport from unauthorised removal. The result can be other programs get broken, as I've discovered.
It took me three weeks to troubleshoot why my Synchronising program Allway sync would not autostart. To cut a long story short Rapport prevents a part of the registry being written to that Allway sync needs to access to set up autostarting. I also noticed that my Lightscribe software needs to place an entry in the same key, so Rapport can break some programs.

I don't like software that interferes with your PC without at least a warning and how to fix the issues it creates.

  • I knew almost nothing of this software before i downloaded it. after seeing it on numerous banking websites i decided to try it against my better judgement. Low and behold an hour later my computer starts playing up, I end up having to remove it, and then eventually completely reinstall my pc. I am sure there was other things involved as well, but rapport definitely didn't help. Needless to say I will not be reinstalling.:(
    Proudly cashing in since 2006. . .
  • I download the Rapport software to protect my online banking at the suggestion of Natwest bank after they had put a check box on my account to say we suggest you have this and we may note that you have not accepted our offer.(What ever that means?)
I have been trying to get it off my computer and time capsule ever since.
The uninstaller does not work, Rapport are unable to get it off unless I send them all the files related to it, Apple deleted it from system preferences but I can't open emails ,do online banking , it hangs all the programs .
I am proceeding to reinstall all the programs I have with the assistance of Apple , I just hope I don't loose all my photos and iTunes and Microsoft Office Docs
This software is not ready for the market yet.
    INSTALL AT YOUR PERIL

I am having to use another computer because of RAPPORT :mad::mad:

As far as I am aware Virtual PC will only run on Windows Professional and Vista/7 Ultimate, so....... a bit of a mute point for the vast majority of users who will not be running these higher end/spec OS. (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/)

Sandboxie is a very good solution (especially with kids) but is not a secure environment as such, i.e. if you navigate to a dodgy website and malware is downloaded for that session you are exposed.

The main Virtual PC site you link to there is just for more recent versions of Windows, however Virtual PC 2007 will work with XP Pro (not Home Edition) and a sandbox version of XP running on XP will only need about 256mb to 384mb of RAM assigning to it, this makes it usable for a lot more people.

You can download Virtual PC 2007 here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=04d26402-3199-48a3-afa2-2dc0b40a73b6&displaylang=en

Of course if you haven't got the resources to run a proper virtual machine then Sandboxie is clearly better than nothing :)

Just had a message from HSBC this morning. It seems they too will be recommeding customers to use this software.
In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:
  • I used to use it about 6 months ago (downloaded from NatWest). Then I decided I didn't need another piece of software running al the time in the background, plus at th at time the arrow in the address bar was big. I uninstalled.

Then about 2 months ago I saw that more banks/BS were recommending it so installed it again but could not make it work. When I tried to uninstall it there was indication it was running. I contacted Rapport about it and they wanted to connect to my PC and have a live chat (this is after me sending error logs to them). I baulked at that and asked for instructions how to safely and fully uninstall it. It required booting the computer to safe mode to do that, so it does get right into your system.

It is interesting that HSBC give its customers McAfee free and now Rapport free.
The Trusteer site has a link to show compatabily with other products and that lists that McAfee Internet Security Suite does have some compatibility problems with Rapport.

I do not have the knowledge to get my computer out of a mess if there was a problem and for that reason, I just can't take the risk of breaking my PC.

If the banks insist on the customers using Rapport, will they be liable and pay to fix all the PCs that hang up and stop working?

A better route is that Banks should pay the "big anti-virus companies" to take on board the "Rapport modules" and embed them it into their products and only after extensive tests should a composite "Anti Virus-Firewall-Rapport" product be offered to Bank customers.

My bank - Natwest - has asked me to download Rapport as an extra type of security.

Does anyone know anything about Rapport and is it safe to download?

    Thanks
I have been reading some good reviews on this software. It is actually great for online banking. It provides protection from online identity theft and online transaction protection which is usually not protected by some anti-virus softwares available. It does so by recognizing the attack while you are visiting your online banking website and prevents any spyware from stealing sensitive information. It also informs you of the attempt.
