I don't usually have any trouble getting to sleep (sometimes my husband has to take my glasses off because I've fallen asleep before I could turn the light out) but my problem is waking up at 4am and lying there awake but at the same time too tired to get up and get a glass of milk. then I fall alseep again at about 5.30 and the alarm goes off at 6 so I feel like a wrung out rag.

I used to think it was when I had wine in the evening but I've given it up for Lent and it hasn't made a difference. Anyone know what causes it?
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

I have not had a decent nights sleep for years, it started when my two youngest were teenegers and started going out on Friday/Sat nights, if they were not in by midnight I just could not sleep. They are\all married/living with partners now and I am still not sleeping properly.

There are nights when I lay until 4am before I go off to sleep, other nights I wake up every two hours, I have tried everything including hypnotherapy, but nothing works.... I would give a million pounds (if I had it) to put my head down on the pillow and sleeping until morning like my OH does, he goes to bed and dies, wakes up bright eyed and bushy tailed....... really hacks me off................

I love lavender - but it can also be a stimulant as well, so don't use too much!

    Try counting down from 100.

I use music as well, but it has to be at a certain volume (not too loud, not too quite). My radio has a sleep function thingy so it turns itself off after 30, 60 or 90 mins which is really helpful. Although I love classical music I find the variations in volume a bit of a problem when I want to sleep so I generally tune in to Classic Gold (60s and 70s stuff) as the volume seems to be fairly level.

Another thing I try is to do is to go through the alphabet thinking of names/ films/books etc beginning with a, b, c, etc.

Best of all, though, is not to worry about not sleeping!!!! I used to spen sleepless nights worrying about not sleeping and not being able to function the next day. Somehow you always do!

    Goodnight and sweet dreams!

I tend to find listening to soft music a great help to ease my mind.

I'd be interested in any cures as well :o

I'm sat here without a care in the world... and I know I'll feel dreadful tomorrow if I don't get some sleep :rotfl:

Have tried the warm drinks, soft music, bath before bed, reading etc etc etc.... and I still find myself sat here at stupid-o-clock in the morning! :D
