OS Daily Thread - Saturday 21st March

Options
Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Saturday 21st March. This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly, but if not, it's not a problem.

Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Daily Threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good!

Morning OS friends! hi.gif

Am sat here eating cheese straws, hoping Tristan will log on so thought I would start the thread and also say thank you all for your words of encouragement re the diabetes - they really helped. :D

Sybil - Thank you hon. Co-incidently I had my eyes tested earlier this week and the optician said my eyes had not deteriorated from 2 years ago on my last test, so that is good. I think I will switch to yearly eye tests now though, just in case.
Reverbe - too late to worry about the obese factor for me - I think I have been lucky not to get diabetes 10 yrs ago! :rotfl:
Ivyleaf - I am so happy you are OK hon. I went through a similar scare about two years ago. I had a cancerous lump taken out 8 yrs ago so was very scared but like you, it turned out to be benign the second time. Thank you very much for the PM by the way. xx
csarina - *hugs* honey
Squiggles - Have I missed something and you are on holiday somewhere?

I sent my MIL some flowers by post but my FIL mis-read the card that had been put through the door and went to the post office on his way to the allotment to pick up what he thought was his onion sets, so had to carry the flower box all the way to the allotment and back on his bicycle! :rotfl:

The weather man says the weather will stay good over the weekend, so am hoping with every fibre that I might be able to get out into the garden and start clearing and replanting the tubs and pots. The pond needs clearing out too - now that is NOT a job I look forward to, though I love seeing it so much clearer when it is done! I also want to see my frogspawn and tadpoles for real rather than just pictures of them!

OS wise - we are having pork chops and mash and veg for dinner tonight, the huge ones we got from the butcher. Really looking forward to it.

By the way, if you don't drink wine and want to go for the M & S offer, I can recommend the Elderflower presse. You get two bottles with the offer and I opened one last night and it is just slightly fizzy and has a lovely delicate flavour.

I hope you all enjoy the start of your weekends. Do something to spoil yourself today if you can... Warm gentle hugs to anyone who needs one.hugs.gif

    Morning.

Cold and frosty start, looks to be another glorious day. I have got quite a tan already, the leaves are coming out on the trees and the feel good factor is high.
Day out today I think, leave the garden well alone. I think we will take the train to St Ives and spend the day by the sea. It's only an hour away and the train ride makes a change from driving. With local rail cards a cheap day out at less than £10 for the family.
Managed more weed pulling, planted my sweetcorn in pots in the green house as well as sweetpeas for the OH. Looking good so far.
BBQ came out again last night for grilled pork chops and veg parcels. LIDL has the best kept secret on pork chops. Frozen section 4 for £1.75.

Well, have a nice day and get outside.... Cheers from Cornwall

  • Morning Diva, and all who follow :D

Very early start for me this am, DS came into our room at 5am, tried to put him back to bed to which he told me he couldn't sleep - its 'boring'

Plan today is to get as much washing done as possible and make sure house is tidy as last thing I want to be doing tomorrow is cleaning ;)

Tea tonight will either be gammon with salad and potatoes or BBQ, depends how I feel :p

Hope all have a good day, (((hugs))) to those who need em :D

  • Morning all,

another beautiful day outside the window - wonder how much longer it will last...?! Keep going MIA due to very hectic life, so must have a quick catch-up of past few days as no idea what's been happening...

Got my rotary line up, improvised a base with a concrete plant pot & some bricks, so will be doing about 3 loads of washing today at least! Also need to hoover through, clean bathroom, and I have a selection of clean washing which I must go through & decide what absolutely MUST be ironed & what I can get away with not doing....

MSD - :) morning hun. Nope, you didn't miss anything & sadly definitely not on holiday.... just getting slightly overwhelmed with uni/placement/work/study/life.... Only 11 more weeks to go & then I will get my life back!!! Sounds like you have had some health news? (will read back to find out) so (((hugs)))) to you.
N9eav, those chops sound like a bargain - maybe a trip to Lidl is called for. I love doing them with onion & apple, in an apple juice & creme fraiche sauce.

(((((((((((hugs)))))))))) to everyone who needs them too.

  • Morning Guys!

Have had a bad night and still feel rough, but am going to try and remain positive today:D

WM has been on and needs to be put on the line, but the DW has been emptied by my lovely DD. She is also just making me a milky coffee and a squash.

Weather looks bright outside today, so will wash dd's new super cheap (£2 each) bedding sets OH got from Tesco last week and get OH to hang them outside.OH & DD are doing some gardening later too but the lawns have already been mowed and tidied. May see if we can eat lunch out there and get the comfy seats out so I can get out there with a little help.

    Anyway, I had better go.

    Hugs to all.

    Morning all

Well lovely here again although cold still at the moment. WM on and two more loads sorted to follow and get pegged out (have you seen the other thread re pegs - had me in stitches reading it yest!).

Pennypincher hope you start to feel better as day progresses.
N9eav I do envy you living where you do!
Jovichick - try and catch a snooze later - those early starts usually catch up with me by about 3 p.m.
Diva - think that I am probably just dodging the bullet myself - I really must try harder with the diet, lifestyle etc.

Having said that I am going to bake this morning :rotfl: after picking up some flowers for MIL. Bought myself some daffs whilst out shopping yest and they look so bright and cheerful today. I know I should have probably waited till tomorrow but I have strongly hinted that I would like growbags and plants rather than cut flowers IYKWIM:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Having my hair cut today, look like a scarecrow this morning and my natural (ahem!!!) blonde colour seems to have very dark roots (ok so I am not naturally blonde but who knows what colour there is there with all the grey and I don't fancy chancing looking!)

Hope you all have a lovely saturday, will catch up with rest of news from everyone later.

Hugs and best wishes to all x

  • Right, caught up briefly (I think).

Moggins, Reverbe, FairyElephant – sorry to hear you are all having tough times. (((((((hugs))))))) to you all.
AnnieStar, hope you’re feeling a bit better now & Ivyleaf, glad you had a positive outcome too. PenPin, sorry you had a rough night as well.

Betheebee, meant to say (as others have done) so sorry you had a batch of horrible news in one go, but please don’t feel guilty for feeling happy about good news/things either – that’s part of the mixture of life and you have no control over it. I look on it as the good things are what help get me through the bad things (sorry, I don’t think this makes much sense).

Belated Happy Birthdays to Mudgekin, Vicky and Essex-Girl – hope you all had lovely days!!!

Halight, glad to hear you’re keeping yourselves busy – hope the twins enjoy(ed) their first swim?!
PippaS, hope the visit for new DGS went well J What an exciting time for you all, especially with Mother’s Day tomorrow…
Diva, hope you manage to get things stabilised hon, that must have been a bit of a shock for you? I am technically obese too (although I try to convince myself most of that is due to, er, the upper half of the front of my body…lol!!!). I did join the gym a couple of weeks ago (trying to find some “chill-out time” so have swum a couple of times & went for an induction session early yesterday morning to try & see if I can start shifting a bit of weight. I just don’t have the willpower….
Celyn, are the outlaws still there? Or have they gone again now?? Hope you survived it… (is that why you went on an extended shopping trip?!)
    SisterCas, lol at the rabbits!!!!

Welcome to all the newbies too by the way!

Good Morning everyone, what a beautiful day outside again. Hope everyone enjoys the weekend whatever they are doing. My cold has now gone which is good. Unfortunately I didn't get up as early as I wanted to today but everyone else is still asleep so it is nice to just do a few things round the house in a bit and look on the net. Going to take the dogs for a nice walk later into town, might have a coffee then walk near the river/canal which will be lovely I hope. Got to sort out my O/D charges today I am thinking of putting in a claim, along with sorting out the office room (have not attempted this since we moved in 6/7 weeks ago!! Anyway hope everyone enjoys their Saturday.
