Wouldnt think it would make much difference if u mean primary 5 and primary 3. Wow how times have changed. I use to take my kids out of primary school for 3 weeks at a time to take them to visit relatives in the far east (combined with easter holidays to make 5 weeks). The headteacher use to say there is no better education for them lol. Didnt do them much harm in the long run. They both left secondary school with a dozen straight A / A*'s .
Different story at secondary school of course. One year could only get a flight 2 days before the end of the summer term. The headteacher refused to authorise that leave until my hubby said we were going for a relatives wedding. Authorised it then but asked to see a copy of the wedding pix  :rotfl: . Luckily said head forgot after the summer hols

Thought this school palaver for just for repeat offenders

yes it is primary school, and we have never asked before, we know of familys who have gone to florida twice in the last 2 years in term time, with no comeback:rolleyes:, Dave

do they not have the school dates on your local council website ?

    eg ours is www.bridgend.gov.uk

yes they do, but why as our own schools website not got these dates, and head teacher not knowing does not really help matters, i did not find out about the councils website till after we booked, Dave

sending in a letter with abscence request form pleading our case, but also letting them know we will be prepared to take them out if they refuse permission, lets see where that gets us, Dave

Good Luck!! The things we have to do to take the kids away on hols!! Ive just checked my schools website, and it amazed me that theyve actually got the dates down for sept term, ours go back 3rd sept. The school usually just have dates for the term we are currently on, and if very lucky the following term. Your school may take notice, if you suggest that if they had advertisd the school dates, then you wouldnt have booked, You are just going on guess work from the previous years, they may make sure, that in future, as soon as theyre aware of important dates, they relay the info back to parents.

Hope you have a lovely time anyway, tho I suspect it may be slightly marred with your worrying about taking them out.

Took me ages to pay for our wkend away last night, had to come out from the sunhols site and start all over, got the payment confirmtion on screen, which I printed off, but havent received an email. I do hope its gone thru OK, promised my kids now, as its for my eldests 10th birthday treat!!

has anybody ever managed to change a booking, once it has been made?, Dave

I managed to change a date once and then add extra people another time. I did this direct with the park though, so it may depend on the 'helpfulness' of the park. I did it very earlier on so maybe they hadn't used up there allocation of Sun Hol caravans.

    Hope this helps.

I would check with school first though, first few days back should be ok to miss.

    spaceman that's a shame :(

I hope you are able to change it to something else with haven.

I agree that the start of the school year is the worst time to take them out, but then again your children aren't starting a new school so it depends on the child and how they cope I suppose. My son wouldn't cope because he's immature and just not 'with it' enough to find out the information he'd already missed, bless him. I try not to take him out of school at all, but my sister's kids cope fine with days off school.

I wonder if making it clear to the head that this is a bargain few days in a caravan, rather than a flight to florida. I often hear teachers in the staff room saying that parents would be able to afford a holiday in the school holidays if they lowered their sights and went to rhyl instead of going abroad. If they know that your holiday plans are very modest that might go in your favour.
