  • It was the annual payment for my insurance, not a montly amount.

Need to do the sums on the mortagage front. MrGG not keen as we won't be paying any capital off and for some reason that bothers him. A lot. I said, it should bother you a darn site more when things get worse. He has the "slowly slowly monkey" attitude and says things wont happen overnight yet, at the same time, I think there is no point suffering when there are things that we can do to help ourselves. I think interest only is the way to go. Some of my friends have done it for various reasons: going part time, redundancy, maternity leave etc etc. If its good enough for them......

I'll take all your cyber hugs thanks very much. Just what the doctor ordered.

House is clean, well, pretty much, done some washing, got the bed linen in the tumble and as soon as that's finished they are going on the bed, can't beat fresh sheets to improve a mood and all your support and advice and general all round kindness has warmed my heart.

    1. Find out what the difference would be in monthly payments doing normal mortgage payment and interest only

    2. Find out interest rates etc on all unsecured debts

    3. Do some kind of spreadsheet/pie chart wonder showing Mr GG that it will take you a thousand years to repay these at minimum payments.

    4. Point out that with interest rates at a historic low you have the chance to take advantage of this.

    5. Once you have been a Certfied Budgeteer for a while and repay the cards/loans you will be able to attack your mortgage with vigour and can look into overpayments to help out with his worries about not repaying any of the capital

In the words of the mighty Blackadder....Needs must when the devil vomits in your kettle.
  • Aye lass. I need to do some hardcore sums.

He will listen. I have my ways. Trust me. I am a woman with ways that no man could argue with. <translates as will just cry and weep continuously til MrGG gives in as he can't take the wailing any more>

    Mortgage-free Glee!
    Hi GG,

Sorry things are so tough but look at your sig - you've cleared 25% of your debt in a year...that's fabby.

Look at the mortgage option, it may buy you the breathing space you need and then you can throw everything you have at it because you'll have cleared all the others debts.

Keep going, darkest before the dawn!
