Anyone started growing lettuce yet?

Oh. Thanks. They need more light. I was told that they needed less light (as they were on the windowsill originally) - so I put them away from the windowsill a couple of days ago! I'll put them back there again and see what happens. Maybe I'll also plant the seeds a bit deeper next time to see if that makes any difference.
Thanks for your help.0 -
My lettuce seeds are growing skywards, and are quite spindly. I have moved them to a lighter area of my house where the sun shines.
They are growing quite close together, and a few are seemingly growing three stems. Should I be thinning them out?0 -
Sowed mine into hanging baskets last weekend with radish. 5ft off the ground should keep them safe from unexpected frost~~~~~~~~~~~~Halifax, taking the Xtra since 1853:rolleyes:~~~~~~~~~~~~0

Hi all,
Planted out my lettuces (iceburg, lollo rosso and gem) yesterday. Cloche over them at night. They are looking a bit limp today - was it too early?

Whereabouts are you Ging?
I'm in Surrey and my summer lettuces are still in the frame but ok and the more hardy ones are almost ready for picking.I grow yugoslavian red,all year round and laballacher ice early in the season, then move on to the saladbowls, gems and 'frillies' from now onwards.
Keep them covered up and a bit on the dry side..I'm sure they'll be fine they might just take a few days to recover from being transplanted0 -
Where abouts are you.
Mine have been out for a few weeks, SE Englandbit limp today -
You would be a bit tired , if wrench from your cosy bed and stuck in the cold ground,
bet they cheer up in a few days.0 -
Being a clueless newbie I have a sown a couple of lettuce lollo rosso in a old cardboard milk carton on my window sill, inside the house. But then I am up in the nortwest, past Manchester and it goes very cold at night!0

My cut & come agains have been outside for a few weeks here in sunny Bath and they are cropping well for the sarnies.
It all depends where you are and what varieties you've sown.0 -
I stuck my lollo rosso in at the weekend under a mini polly tunnel (poundland special) and some are doing OK, others not so.Tim0
