Aww ok.. maybe not such a good idea after all.. but seemed good at the time!
Other little things that people mention sound good, but aren't going to make me a constant income which can support my overdraft.
Maybe starting a small time business will be the way forward.. If i did it with a few people as well so that it didnt interfere too much with uni.. could use the summer to do all the creating/ideas etc...[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

On the subject of ways to help freshers how about setting up networks for the students who want it. Computer repair, installation and building would also be a good idea, not just around uni but around where you live. You have a car, if you have a laptop you could have everything you need on the laptop, if not you can at least take the computer away and deliver it back in your car.
Incidently apart from Cisco what other subjects are you studying on your course as i'm currently in my third year of a computer network management and design degree at RGU in Aberdeen and am just wondering if it's as shoddily put together as my course (not much chance but you never know).Sometimes i surprise myself by being right.0 -

I think a lot of IT students feel that way, I did. Does your uni contact students after 6 months of leaving to see what they are doing workwise? I think you should be happy if your uni has a high employment rate. The statistics are freely available at mine.... unlike the lecturers outside lectures :P0 -
RGU is one of the top uni's in Scotland for having graduates going straight into work, but when you have a course that:greyster wrote:I think a lot of IT students feel that way, I did. - gives you a lecturer who doesn't know what to do for a subject you need help with
- makes a module where you are creating a module for 2nd year students
- has you creating an interactive multimedia project when you should be learning mysql, phpbb or other more relevant subjects to do with network management

Ye i have a laptop, car, and skills to build computers, fix/maintain/upgrade computers, setup/maintain networks etc etc.. and more skills than those IT guys from the yellow pages rofl
the Network Computing degree includes loads of other modules as well as your standard CISCO Networking such as advanced routing, mobile and web programming, java, c, object oriented event driven programming, system analysis and design, probability and statistical analysis, etc etc etc
Will deffo advertise myself around in some papers and stuff starting september.
Thanks for the advice.
EDIT:
Thinking about it, how would you go about advertising? That's the worst area for me, getting my name around. I'm in Stafford which is a town in the UK. Cheers[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

Get some posters up in the Octagon Computing lab! Might not get you a great deal of trade but its free so worth a try.
Then there is the Express and Star and the Staffordshire Newsletter but not sure what that would cost and if its worth it.
Depends on whether you would be aiming to help businesses or home users!

I'm confident I'd be able to help both. Inc home business users!! (vpn's and such..)
I'll stick some posters around starting september. I may even try and bribe the Information Services into letting me stick a screensaver ad on haha. Then as you say, will enquire into the Express and the Star.. also the student newspaper GK news I'll give a try....
Maybe I can do a "no fix no pay" scheme as a lot of people are going to be wary of some "student" charging money to come out etc etc...
I'm confident i'll be able to fix all none faulty hardware related issues.. although I'm not sure on the legal/insurance issues I'll have as well If i'm taking it seriously....[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."
