Thanks SC - on the car front it looks like it may be a write off - not so much because of what I did the other day but because it was already in bad shape. I think they've identified £2K's  worth of work so far... (the car would have been lucky to get that resale wise!) however they can't tell me yet how much of that is essential. But the MOTs due in August so would have to ensure it would pass that.... if we bother to fix it at all.

    So the options are
    a) do the bare minimum to get it back on the road
    b) sell it for scrap
    c) not sure if there is anything in between?

Could use OH's car for a bit while he uses his motorbike but his motorbike is also due an MOT in August and not sure on its chances of passing either!

    Hi SH,

Sorry you've been having a hard time of it lately! You've always a good word for everyone else, so just lending my support too! Are you able to trade in the car at all, I know someone who traded their car in and drove it to the garage with the exhaust hanging off! Could be worth a try!

Hope have a better weekend - take some time to chill with a vino or two xx

Hi Swinstie - even the garage are saying it isn't worth fixing! I've asked them about trade in value and they will give me a ring...!

I need something costing £600 plus, a new steering rack nearly £700, 3 new tires, rear brakes, suspension is shot blah blah blah blah He thinks even if I spent the money could need the same again next year!

    Thanks CMD and Zippy!

The breakdown company just sent me a £10 voucher to apologies for the delay - just from me telling them what I thought on the phone! Impressed that I didn't have to write to complain!

Taking DD to a friend's to play - and then I am hoping to do a test drive of a "make of car" to see if I would like it in practice....

thanks mrsc and others for popping in! Well looked at cars at two garages. The model I wanted to testdrive wasn't in so tried a meriva instead. OH suddenly started talking about buying new - they were offering interest free and 5% cashback etc! He then looked ay a £6K+ one - I was thinking perhaps £3-4K. I think if he wants to get "carried away" I would be better waiting until I had a job again and then look and just manage on a car and motorbike until then!

Hi guys not been out today as a way to try and save money! I think we are agreed that we won't buy a car until I have a job again - but that still leaves us with some issues:

    a) need to clear out car
    b) need to dispose of car and pref get some cash for it
    c) need to try and suspend insurance
    d) ideally need to claim road tax back for up to 2 months

I think I would like to stay within a budget of £3-4K when I am in a position to buy a car unless I get a perm job in which case I might consider new but I would prefer not to put us under that level of pressure - esp when I am still trying to pay off debt

I've applied for some jobs today and made my cv searchable on some more websites - lets hope that brings some positive results. I need to stop vegging and get off my proverbial and start making things happen again....

Starting with sending off some receipts to claim some money back... please hound me about that LOL! I also need to sign back on if they will let me ! Currently about £600 per month short unless start getting at least the £240 again

I also need to sort out a pressie for my Dad as it was his birthday recently and still not sent him anything.

I did get £5 on a free daily scratchcard yesterday which was at least something....

bye for now - hope you all had a far more positive weekend than mine.
