Also I have been number crunching. I want to be debt free by the time I am 40 (next year) - to achieve that I need to be really focused on kicking the debt in to touch. My target to pay off each month is therefore going to be £1200 or more. That would bring me £7.2K closer to being debt free (over 6 months)! The job is initially for around 6 months so I intend to leave my savings where they are for now. OH is going to try and move one of 0% cards to a new 0% if he can when it expires in July which should help!
SavingH,
Glad you have decided to view this job in a positive light. You will be able to pay your debts off quicker and you are not under any immediate pressure at the moment. You never know, you might prefer this job!

Thanks CMD, Hypno and Tea! :TYeah it does take the pressure off getting this job. :j It will be paid weekly too - I always find that a positive incentive - when I struggle in a job - I work out how much I earn by the hour or by 15 mins if necessary to help me stick in there. I just feel they have got a bargain (in me) and that I haven't really (pay wise at least) altho the job interest and intellectual stimulation should be there... It is a really respected organisation tho so who knows what doors it will open up for me. The project I will be involved with is quite broad too so hopefully that will play well on the CV. I will be paid by the hour too - so it may be possible to bump up
my earnings fairly easily - won't really know how it works until I get in there tho!
Well I got the feedback from THE job a few weeks ago... She basically said she could see me in a more operational role rather than a corporate role which to be honest I agree with - the problem is I didn't know until part way thro the interview that it wasn't in an operational area (it wasn't specified at any point in the process it was just a role at a certain level within the organisation) so didn't "adapt" my answers quickly enough. We live and learn. She is going to find out whether there is anyway to fast track me for future roles and give me a call back so we will see if anything more develops there! She has also promised to consider me for future roles in her area!

Well I have talked to the agency about whether paye or umbrella co would be best for me. I have found out if I go via an umbrella company my take home pay will increase by around £90 per week or about £400 per month so that is the option I am going with.... This is basically by being able to charge back my travel and subsistence and get tax relief on it! Will see how that goes - if it works out like that in practice may be able to pay off more and do so more quickly!Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Hi SH
Gglad you had a good birthday!!
Feedback sounded positive - it's a bit annoying though when job descriptions aren't as transparent as they should be. Does sound like you left a good impression though and lovely to know you would be considered in the future.
Good to see your positive outlook the job front - you never know they may see how impressive you are and more money could be on its way!
Still keeping fingers crossed for other jobs for you!LBM - 17th November 2008 - better late than never

evening SH
hope all is well with you. my, you have had a busy couple of days. lots to do and think about. you seem really focused and are planning on how to structure your repayments. good for u!!!
we heard today that we can pay things slightly differently on one payment and therefore would save 1k over the 12 months. we will prob do that. also trying to get rid of cars for cheaper ones!
have a good weekend / nice rest before back into work mode!

Getting rid of some of the cars for cheaper ones in your case would be quite significant I would have thought....:p
Apparently yesterday's mega bucks job is finding it a really hard decision -will hopefully hear Tuesday - only choosing between 2. The other person has direct sector experience tho that I don't! But I have many other fab attributes of course! :rotfl:I would be gobsmacked if I got it but would snatch their handypandies off! I could clear my debts and have a fab holiday over the next year if I got that one!!!
I also talked to the agency about the 2nd interview - he hasn't heard back yet as the recruiter is on hols today so will hopefully find out more next week. Likely to move slower. Not megabucks but closer to home and still more money than the other one before the umbrella co additions. Not sure how they compare with the umbrella co money tho - esp as he is trying to negotiate a higher salary for me... Certainly getting better at straight face negotiation with agencies on salary... I credit mse for that!:money:
Been out for tea with kids and OH tonight tho - finally had my birthday cake and opened the other 2 pressies! My first film from my free :money:extra month's film trial came today - so OH and I watched "Wanted" - an 18! Kind of cross between the matrix, mr and mrs smith and other films! Great destressor tho as it was violent but in my opinion in a very unrealistic way... I can cope with that...
Hope you are all having a great and relaxing weekend!Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Hi guys got an offer thro today from one of my CC's that is empty to give me 0% until May 2010 - as OH has 2 cards about to run out of 0% that could be really good! Just need to check out my limit - which I don't think is as high as I need it to be.... Done that - it isn't and they won't increase it - how annoying! The transfer fee is only 2.5% tho which is pretty good! Still need to find a card to take about another £3K then at a cheap rate!
Also looked at the umbrella club figs and Tues job comes out on top above Thurs interview no 2 - however because the travel is further that probably balances out. If I don't get Thurs mega bucks job - I might therefore stick with Tues job until I get a perm offer... Watch this space!
Have a good day.... Off to put my birthday money in the bank!Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030
