I am going to try and ring a physio next and see what they can do for me

I am still dreading the thought of returning to work.
I feel really low and all my motivation seems to have evaporated - so I have this week upped my anti-d's after seeing the GP - however it will take a while for that to kick in.
I am in constant pain with my knee - It gets better and then worse again so at the moment it is hard to believe it will get better.
I haven't seen any jobs to apply for that are any more suitable than the one I already have so don't feel there is any point in applying. Not sure with my limp and feeling down that I would come across particularly well either - so am not applying yet....
When my knee started to get better - I thought right - I will be able to go back to work soon then - good job I didn't burn all my boats as we need the money - Now it is fluctuating I worry that a) it will never get better (awfulising) and b) that I am doing something wrong that is preventing my knee from healing just cos I don't like my job (although if I am it isn't conscious). So at the moment - just trying to stay as positive as poss - especially for the kids - and just get thro the day!Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

You poor thing - the job does seem to be having a very negative effect on you. Is there anyway you can sit down with your OH, work out exactly how much money you need to bring in every month (from you) and then look for a more fulfilling job in that area. And when I mean what you need to bring in, I mean so that you can survive and not be stressed. Something less demanding might allow you a bit of time out to see what career direction you want to take.Total (Aug 19):€58,567 Now:€26,947

I have a physio appointment booked for 12.30 Tuesday so it will be interesting to see what he says.... But I will be £40 down!
My ideal is to bring home around £2K but even half that would put us above the breadline and allow us to repay debt - as long as I wasn't incurring lots of childcare and petrol costs.... If I had childcare and petrol costs to add in - would need more....
The £320 a month I would get for being off sick - would meet our basic needs if we were ultra good - as my spending has shown this week - not too good at living on basic money only!
I haven't yet spent the £25 on fuel tho which would help compensate - for over-spending. I have only driven about 20 miles max this week - to and from school, to the doctor, etc
Our town isn't exactly the epicentre of the universe and jobs are hard to come by at the best of times... I have been doing searches on job sites - just putting in the title of our town - but nothing particularly suitable jumps out.... Also really need my knee to heal. Can't stand long enough to say work in a shop or anything like that at the mo.... even if they would have me....Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Of course you deserve sympathy and you deserve to be in a job that you like. You are very self-aware and realistic so I have no doubt that you will find a job. The good thing is that you can survive on 1/2 your ideal wage. That opens up the scope for more jobs.Total (Aug 19):€58,567 Now:€26,947

Hi SH
I'm sure ds won't be the only one not going on holiday with the school - especially in this economic climate. It is far more sensible to think about a family holiday - annnndddd..... what you do for one child you'd have to do for your daughter when her turn came around. It quite annoys me the pressure the schools put parents under. I'm sure there are far cheaper holidays that the children can gain as much from in this country if it's a fun educational experience they want the kids to have. How old is ds? - I've a feeling you said he was 12 - am I remembering right??
Take care

I agree Milann - I think £750 for a holiday for a child is an awful lot and terrible to put parents under that pressureTotal (Aug 19):€58,567 Now:€26,947

Just hope the physio works. My knee getting better would help me be more confident re applying for other roles...
My DS is just 12 and my DD is 6.5. Yeah the danger of doing it for one is the other would want it to. What got me about the school letter is that it was £775 plus extras like skiing clothing, evening activities etc which I thought was just ridiculous. The problem is that one of his friend's who's father is unemployed - still went last year which I think gave him a false expectation that he would be able to too.Hi SH

I know - I agree - and it was straight after a letter suggesting DS would benefit from a week in France with his own ensuite for about £400-500. What happened to day trips to France or exchange students where you just pay the cost of travel?clearmydebts wrote: »I agree Milann - I think £750 for a holiday for a child is an awful lot and terrible to put parents under that pressure
I have told DS tonight at McDonalds that we can't afford for him to go - but he was welcome to start saving now for the trip in 2 years time!! He said he understood. It's a shame - it would be great to do it - but we may not even get a family holiday this year - it would be completely disproportionate to spend that much on him - especially as the deposit is due now!
Well I have spent £156!! this week from Sunday to today... My target was £150 but that included £50 for fuel (£25 of) which I haven't spent. Don't know if OH had to fill up this week or not (£25) - but if he hasn't yet - he will have to soon.
I've kept a spending diary so I can see where it went..... Let's hope next week I do better!Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

one positive - is that on top of the £7 or so cash I found lying around earlier in the week - I have also found £10 worth of coppers, five pences and twenty pences! DD wants to go to a drama club after half term - it is about £10 for 5 sessions so thinking of using that money to pay for that....
Let's just say she has dramatic tendencies sometimes - I think it might be good to channel it..... LOLAchieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030
