  • I don't know how you do it, I really don't.

Saying no all the time, esp to kiddiwinks has got to be one of the hardest things.

  • Ouch! Hard thing to have to do to decide whether he can go or not, does sound like he's very sensible though offering to contribute to the cost. How old is he? Could he get a paper round or be encouraged to offer to wash cars, do errands to raise the extra money?

We worked out tonight we have spent over £10 this week on the kids, for disco tickets, Haiti contributions, cake stalls........the list goes on

  • I know its very sad about Haiti, at work we have been asked to donate, and I gave them my last pound for a raffle. I have no money left in my purse now. I really couldn't say no to handing the cash over, bit of pressure from the ticket seller and a bit of self moral and ethical pressure too.

  • It is impossible to say no to contributing to Haiti and I wish I could give more. Me and the kids (read me) have made some cakes for a stall tonight for them to sell to raise money which I thought was a good way for them to learn instead of just handing over my money.

  • Maybe he could decide which trip is most important to him and just go for that one.

Could his grandparents give him some money towards it instead of a birthday present?

hi GG, CMD, IMD and Lucielle

I just wrote a long reply and lost it!

To sum it up - unless his nan pays for him - he won't be going on the school trips. We should just about be able to scrape together the money for the youth trips with church as they are much lower cost - and involve a greater element of roughing it which I think is better for him than ensuite bathrooms etc offered on the school trips!

We are not sure we will have any holidays this year - the concerts may well take their place to a degree! Perhaps have short mini-breaks or something.... Camping might also be an option! If we were going to spend the sort of money his school trips cost - I would rather spend it on a family holiday - and take him to France and show him some of the sites ourselves! I speak French to a degree - I could give him the opportunity to practice.

I know some parents on here put trips like these as high priority - but we are quite close to the wire at the moment so don't feel we can do that....

I have my solicitors call in 5 mins or so will be interesting to see how that goes!

    Good luck with solicitors SH

Holiday wise, have you thought of collecting the tokens from the Sun newspaper, you used to be able to get holidays for £9.50 per person, I don't know if they've changed it or not but I think I heard about it this year too. I don't know any other company's that accept them but I know ParkDean does as I used to work there and Mum still does, self catering holiday in a static caravan and you choose to pay extra for linen or take your own.
Just spoken to her and apparantly the entertainment passes are a little more expensive than they used to be, the entertainment passes mean you can use the facilities on site etc

The solicitor thinks it is unlikely I will be able to prove negligence as at the point I slipped - the water was fairly recent.... She has asked me for further info by post but that is her initial feeling. I am not surprised really - disappointed but not surprised..... I suppose it concentrates the mind a bit financially.

I am going to try and ring a physio next and see what they can do for me
