Hi guys thanks again all of you - including my lurkers like maggiem!
I've just shock horror been trying to tidy my study having discovered that most of the things that were on the floor in the lounge belonged to me (some to DD). My study should be an arts and crafts and hamper making paradise but instead it is a hoarders mess! I've decided to reclaim my desk drawers in there for me - rather than present storage - and I am going to try and give things homes. If I can't find homes for things they are going to have to go.
As a result of this -I found some good items for party bags for tomorrow (still need to buy the bags lol!) and a couple of extra pressies for DS. I have also filled 2 boxes with potential presents for the coming year - mostly kids stuff but also random adult stuff!
It has finally hit me that if I stopped frittering my money, and buying things here and there - I really would have more space to.... erm well - live. I would actually be able to enjoy my hobbies rather than always having to try and clear a space for them. I started reading a book called "why am I so disorganised" - before xmas - I got half way thro - didn't do any of the exercises - just let it kind of percolate thro.... I feel I have had another little LBM but this time about all my clutter - rather than just my debt.
If I manage to tackle my bargain hunting - then actually that will improve life for the whole family as we will stop tripping over stuff and actually be able to have people round without being embarassed. Don't get my wrong - we are not in life of grime territory here - just lots and lots of clutter and paperwork messing up the place!
I think I am going to try really hard to stay away from the sales - perhaps do my supermarket shop online ready for say Friday etc to keep me away from temptation. That will help my bank balance and the state of the house. I think I will still allow myself a weekly trip into town but make that a posh coffee and read a book in peace trip rather than a shopping one....
I will let you know how I get on....Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

What a wonderful list of blessings!
Sounds like we're in a similar place regarding clutter. I'm finding it really hard to enjoy the things I have because the place feels cluttered. I'm doing the Use It or Lose it challenge and joining the declutter brigade on OS
Good luck on all your challenges.2019 fashion on a ration 0/66 coupons0 -
Lovely upbeat post. Finding that some stuff on your lounge floor was yours sounds like my dicovery on NYEve. I cleared a cupboard and found my dd's long lost driving licence. Don't know who put it there but as it's a cupboard mostly used my me
it might not have been her. Hmm it could have been me who lost it.CCs @0% £24k Dec 05 £19,621.41 Au £13400 S 12600 Oct £11,981 £9481 £7500 Nov £7250 D £7100 Jan 6950 F £5800 Mar£5400 May £4830 June £4660 July £4460 Aug £3200, S £900, £0 18/9/07 DFW Nerd 0420 -
Hi Verbatim and Jellie
Here's to finding things  and not buying replacements all the time!
V - did you find the lost license before you had to replace it or after?
OH has now gone to take some of our rubbish to the tip (we forgot to put the bin out the other day plus all our decluttered stuff). DS has gone with him to buy stuff for the party this pm. I'm hoping it will be fairly easy - a few kids over in the front room - with a dvd, popcorn and pizza - hopefully that won't be too noisy..... or too stressful.....
I got up 3 hours earlier than other holiday days today - so feel like I have a hangover even tho I don't drink..... Monday is going to be such a shock to the system - I've been going to bed at 3am and getting up 10-12 hours later :rotfl:
I am going to try and get OH to take DD out so she doesn't keep interrupting them! Otherwise I think she'd be a bit like Lola at Charlie's party if you've ever seen that episode of kid's tv or read the book!
Hope you all have a good dayAchieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

SH - me thinks your study and my craft room are made from same dna lol - all I do is tidy/sort it - bung loads of stuff in there for a quick tidy if visitors are coming - decide I want to craft.... but then have to - tidy/sort it - so I can get in blessed room - run out of time to craft.....and so it goes LOL LOL LOL I am on a mission NOT to but any craft stuff until I use some of what I have - which I could actually be doing now instead of mooching around mse errrmmmm....
Hope ds enjoys the party - how old is he?

Hi Milann - I think I became a craft a holic as it gave me an excuse to hoard what would otherwise be worthless junk - old cards etc! By the time I had spent a few hundred pounds on my hobby it would be criminal to stop... blah... blah... blah... One extremely messy room later! I am chuffed as have just hoovered most of DD's floor - but sadly I still can't hoover my study or bedroom floor! Still too much to clear!
DS is 12 tomorrow. His party went okay - not to plan but okay. He only had a few friends over so survived that. Typically I couldn't find the £4 special ice fountain / candle thing I bought him - lets hope I find it before tomorrow! Still need to buy or make him a birthday card! OH was supposed to buy one but didn't!
Well I have made another 3 hours worth of inroads into DD's room and have even been able to hoover. I filled another bin bag - plus 2 bags of clothes to give to a friend plus found some more charity items! One of her large toys is also going to be offered to a friend at church! That will clear some space in our house... Also getting rid of one of her "10 million" coats
So in terms of my to do list of a few days ago it is finally coming together. Still need to buy some more food for the relatives coming over tomorrow - as not sure OH got enough or the right things but there we go!
Watching the latest Harry Potter now with the kids - having a bit of number 18 - family time. OH has bogged off which I am disappointed at but he has spent the afternoon with DD at a play area so I suppose it is not completely surprising tht he was having computer withdrawal symptoms!
Read a little bit more of the "why am I so disorganised" book today -
It says
Every time I save things I don't need or make plans I don't really want.....
I trash my future....Every time I let go of things and activities I don't really need....
I create S P A C E for a new future
