Thanks IMD glad you found me! Life has been tough - only worked 4 weeks since the end of March - but because of mse we have come thro this without adding to debt other than for car! Thrilled about that!

Well OH's motorbike bills were reasonable but he does need new boots and wet weather gear on top which we think could be as much as £250! His stuff is 5-10 years old tho and he is set to have to wear it all winter! Still a lot cheaper than running a second car so are going to bite the bullet and go for it.

I stayed in today so NSD so far anyway! Slept in this morning - I was so tired my head was spinning. I have done some cleaning and decluttering this afternoon - so much left to do tho!

My new company to be rang me today and everything is still on track for a week Monday - which is a relief.

Got £10 in Amazon vouchers today too from bp that will help towards OH's xmas pressies... Got about 40p on scratchcards... really need to do a bit more on quidco and stuff! Need to get back to my book writing too but stalled at the mo...

    Hope everyone else doing okay!

Even better news about your job then, I didn't realise you hadn't been in work so you have done brilliantly well. Read your story (I think it was) about the late pick up from clubs, I can sympathise with you on that one

Hi - yes late pick up from clubs... hmmm better not go there!

I can't wait until I get my first pay - should be fab. Need to ring my umbrella company tomorrow re new contract. I think the trick now is to remember not to spend my wages several times over in my excitement at being employed again!

I have just tried to get a new wardrobe from DS from freecycle - lets hope I am successful. He doesn't have one at the mo - stores a few things in DD's room. Thing is he is getting a new bed for xmas altho if I can I want to give it him early - shouldn't have to get things like that for xmas. He also wants a laptop but hoping money from family and friends will pay for that or most of it. If he can get a good laptop game for gaming - we could take his desk/cupboard unit out of his room and let him have a wardrobe.....

All those ifs.... And the money!!! But he is such a good kid tho. He is only 11 and makes his and DD's breakfast and packed lunch. He is a little star! I had to get him trainers and football boots for school recently and he willingly, happily even, chose all the cheapest stuff - I think that is amazing in today's world!

DS sounds like a superstar. I think the kids on here are all great. Once they understand what's going on they all seem to get on with it. And hopefully it'll stand them all in good stead when they're older.

My DS is fab! I love him to bits. We are really honest about money with him. He knows what we earn - we talk about how much the house is worth, what our mortgage is, what our debts are, what things cost. I am hoping that will help him understand money far better than we ever did. We had no idea at all how to budget and live within our means.

OH's parents didn't really discuss money - his dad used to sneak things in and his mum used to save for major refurbs! My parents income was up, down all over the place so altho they sometimes shared what things cost - they never really explained how they made their income fit their costs. My mum used to always be shopping - often taking things back too - but without any info on income it was always hard to understand how they lived.

I am hoping that before he leaves home we will sit down and discuss budgets etc with him - might let him practice a bit here too... Time will tell!

I did my figures again last night. I think I need to stick with the plan of bed for xmas/birthday and leave aside all thoughts of a laptop. He is going to need to fund that from the pressies he gets from others I think.... I think if he gets extras it will be cushions etc for his day bed! He'll be happy regardless.

Really struggling to get going today. I need to press on with sorting out the house! Visitors for tea tomorrow and lunch Sunday!
