I have picked up 6 of those kilner jars from Asda. Im am so glad I popped into your diary as I hadnt deciede what to do with them until now, I just thought they were a bargin. I will have to pop down to costco and find something to fill them up with. I have also nearly finished my christmas shopping I am making up hampers for everyone this year.
How is the job hunting going? I hope something turns up soon for you.DFW NERD NO.656 DEBT FREE 24TH NOVEMBER 2010 TOTAL DEBT AUGUST 2007 £39000MFiT T2 NO.56 WE OWN [STRIKE]25%[/STRIKE] 31.5% OF OUR HOUSE SO FAR!0 -
Hi lunar - nice to hear from you again. I think those jars are a fantastic bargain. Last year - Asda were using jars like that to put elements of a foot spa together in or kids hair accessories or socks or anything like that.... There is just so much you can do with them.... I thought I might fill one with nightlights, I've got loads!
Job hunting is v depressing.... so won't go there I think!Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

I have bought £1 Kilner jars from Asda (a special type of metal hinge and air tight seal) about 16 of them :rotfl:and divided tins of quality street, heros, orange segsations between them. They were on buy one get one free last week in Tescos! I also managed to get a 1kg bag of haribo mallows for 99p at Home and Bargain and have filled about 5 jars with those. Debenhams last year were selling jars like that for £10 and they were selling! Mine cost about £1.20 for the mallow and probably about £3.50 for the chocolate ones! So pretty much everyone in the family is getting one or more of them this year. Plus other wrap ups that were in the house or freebies I have picked up.
Hi SH
I've been struggling to clear debt for years but seem to go round in circles! I realised that I needed some support and motivation and that MSE was perfect for me!
Am enjoying challenges like the Debt Free Birthday Club, 1 debt in 100 days etc and I finally feel like I'm changing my habits and dealing with some of the underlying stuff that got me into debt.
I'm also loving getting ideas and help from others.
Your jar idea is inspired and if they are still on sale next time I'm near an Asda I fully intend to borrow this idea! I really must go and do a stock take of my pressie box ready for Christmas....
keep talking about it but not so good on doing it. I guess because in reality it's about 6 boxes to go through! :eek:2019 fashion on a ration 0/66 coupons0 -
As suggested just popping out of lurkerdom to say thanks for the mention of the kilner jars - my mind is whirring with ideas of what to fill them with, think I will almost definitley fill one each for my parents and siblings (an associated partners etc!)0

This is nighlights in a jar - approx cost including jar £3 or less. The nightlights I have had year or two so TBH it would be good to see them given away :rotfl:I just put them in the jar to give you an idea... Instore / Poundstretcher sell them cheap
Jars of mallows - £1.20 ish
Choccie jars - heros £3.50ish, Quality street £3.50ish incl jars
Terry's orange segsations - £3.50 ish incl jar
£2.99 - bargain!:rotfl:Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

My present stock used to be about 6 boxes too, I think I am now down to 2 or 3 :rotfl:still too much by most people's standards
Glad you like the jars ideas... If you do miss out on the kilner jars, Asda (and other supermarkets and pound shops) do other jars for £1 it is just to me these look more special
We used to keep going round the debt cycle - and if I could get a job I am fairly confident that I would have broken it as I have had fairly good habits for over a year now - paying stuff off and have only added to debt for car which is a necessity!

Last year I did journal in a jar things for friends / relatives. This one - I got a free wall paper sample in gold - printed out my journal tasks (1 for each month) and then glued them to the wallpaper before cutting them out and tying them up with wired ribbon. I then put them in a jar from poundstretcher. I also gave them a note book to write in.....

You can also do cookie mixes in jars, socks in jars all sorts. I might do some more this year for the ones I didn't give them to last year.
I also did some in mugs, plant pots all sorts
This one I did use wrapping paper and lilac curling ribbon... anyway you get the idea. Some people do 365 jokes in jar, 365 facts, or a journal idea for each day - too much work for me LOLAchieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030
