    Afternoon all,

I've had a great day food wise though I feel a little bloated, I hope the feeling will pass?

I bought the new SW magazine yesterday and there is a freebie little booklet with 40 recipes to celebrate SW's 40th birthday. I see there is a nice looking citrus cheesecake recipe in there but the base suggested has me puzzled, they say to use toasted breadcrumbs, now I don't know about anyone else but that sounds a little odd for a cheesecake base? surely biscuits are better?

Yeah hopefully by then I will be able to afford to go to a class, at the minute I just do it on my own, although when I set my mind to something I am very determined and last time I did SW I was very young and didn't really try very hard, and wasn't in a place where I was really bothered by my weight. So I lost a fair bit but didn't feel any incentive to maintain.

I've not gained any weight for 4 years + so seem to maintain my heavier weight OK, just don't think it will be the same with a lower weight, although I'm already finding I can't eat as much as you used to (my main issue is portion size as I do eat a very healthy diet, just too much of it!) so fingers crossed I will magically become one of those 'oh no I couldn't possibly fit in another bite' types! :D lol! I'm convinced I actually do have hollow legs! :D

Yeah thats the prob with drink, it is easy to not bother syning it, also I found that I would just lose track lol! One drink would become 6 etc so wouldn't bother to count it at all. I honestly don't miss it at all, now and never thought I would hear myself saying that! Glad you are finding it ok too!

Thanks for your encouragement it really helps, especially as I don't go to a class ATM, it's great to hear of other people going through the same thing.

    Fern.
Maybe we should have a forum weigh in for those of us doing it alone! I usually count Sunday morning as my 'weekly' weigh in although I can't resist weighing every day. Just seeing a weeny amount off really inspires me for the rest of the day and I just keep thinking 'I'm doing it, I'm doing it...'. Mind you a weeny gain makes me hacked off lol!

Just stick with it and remember there are loads of us all doing the same!

Yes, I saw that too. I suppose it's just to keep the syns down but I'm not sure this'll work. Let us know if you do it.

inazuma- I'm the same, I count fri morn as my official WI but can't help weighing every morn! Ooops!

Yeah maybe a group WI is a good idea, I usually post my loss/ gain on here just as a bit of incentive for myself anyway, but maybe we should start doing it for anyone else who wants to post theirs too.

Thanks again for your encouragement! :)

Was good with my exercise today! Did a 45 min yoga workout, then took DD out on my bike for an hour and a half, it is such a good workout having the extra weight on the back. (thats my exercise for the week lol!)

I was thinking though, I have lost 1.5 stone so far, and she weighs 1.5 stone, so before, I would have been carrying that around too! Scary thought!
  • I am going to try and do Extra Easy but am nervous because I can eat HUGE amounts of food and can't quite get my head around eating green and red on the same day. I have a few questions and hope that some of you may be able to help me:

On EE can you only eat at mealtimes, or can you have snacks? You can snack but it's wise to snack on free or superfree foods.

If you can have snacks must they only be fruit or superfree foods? Answered above

Have some of the syn values recently changed? I used to like the Sainsburys BGTY egg mayo deli filler which was free and I just looked it up and saw that it was 1 syn per tbs. Have other foods changed too? Syn values are always changing sadly, but you can make a very low-syn egg mayo yourself using vlf Helmann's mixed half and half with plain yoghurt.

Does EE work as well as the old green and red days? Yes, yes and yes!!

Can I have the ready cut up fruit which they sell in the salad isle in the supermarket? I like to buy the ready prepared melon and pineapple to have while I'm working. Yes.

Sorry if these questions sound really stupid. Not at all :)

If I follow EE strictly with 15 syns max a day, how much weight do you think I might lose by Christmas, given that I have 14 stone to lose in total:o Nobody can tell you that. We're all different, but eating healthily will bring other rewards than weight loss. If you can manage to up your exercise levels too you'll soon look different. You don't have to join a gym, just start to walk more - it really helps if you keep it up over a long period of time.

One thing with EE, do fill one third of your plate with superfree foods. It doesn't matter if you go back for seconds, but keep the proportions that you had in the first plateful.

If you need any further help, you're welcome to pm me :)
I let my mind wander and it never came back!
  • Anyone got any idea's what sorts of excercise i can do? I have asthma and so cant do too much, walking and wii fit is pretty much all i do at the moment and i'm bored of them

I've looked for things like an excercise bike but there just to expensive. I'm just totally out of idea's

Thanks for your answers - I wish you did a class near me! I have got through my first day and it wasn't too bad, although I did use up all my syns on salad dressing and gravy granules. I had a mullerlight for breakfast, chicken, carrots, courgettes and onions in a sort of "stew" thing (thickened with gravy granules - 2 syns) and half a sachet of Batchelors savoury rice, followed by greengages and half an orange for lunch and for tea I made a quarterpounder (Tesco Light choices 1.5 syns) with a low fat cheese slice (A), 57g wholemeal roll (I was amazed that it actually weighed 56g!), bit of hellmanns extra light and ketchup (2syns), a small jacket potato and some home-made coleslaw for tea (counted 2 syns for the dressing of mayo and yoghurt). Thanks for the tip about mixing the Hellmanns vlf and yoghurt - I had some total 0% in the fridge and mixed it with the mayo and it was really nice on the coleslaw - the kids said it tasted weird though and wouldn't eat it! I haven't had any milk today because I had the cheese slice, but I want a cup of tea so will use semi-skimmed milk in it and count it as the rest of my syns. I can honestly say that I'm not hungry in the slightest.

I think the hardest thing for me will be breakfasts because I need something that I can make and eat quickly but I don't really want to use up either of my HE's that early in the day. What sorts of things do those of you on EE usually have?

I really hope that I can do this!

Fannyannie - how about swimming, or if that is too strenuous you could just walk in the water and do some stretches against the side?. My friend has lost loads of weight and REALLY toned herself up by doing just that. I would love to go to the baths but am too ashamed to be seen in a swimsuit!

I wish I did a class near you too :D

1: You can use instant mash to thicken your stews for free on a Green or EE day. Also I would add potatoes to the stew for filling power.

2: I always mix my Helmanns with vlf yoghurt for an almost free dressing. If you add a dash of Worcester sauce or some ground pepper, it gives added flavour. The kids'll get used to it in time and if you tell them it's to help Mum get slim and fit I'm sure they'll try to help.

3: For breakfast I make a bowl of plain couscous (using 4 or 5 tablespoons, just pour on boiling water and wait a few mins for it to soak in). Mix in a Mullerlight and plenty of chopped fresh fruit (free on Green & EE). It's huge, very filling and I really like it. I've told lots of my members about it and had very mixed reactions lol.

4: You're allowed 2 Dairylea Light cheese slices for 1 HEA so (though it's frowned upon) as you only had ½ your HEA you could have counted 125ml of semi-skim milk as the other ½. This is not normally allowed, but because this one is easy to split I'd say it's ok. If you use mini Babybel Light cheeses you can have 3 for a HEA.

5: Like you I can eat huge amounts and with your burger tea I would have had a large jacket potato (not small) or a pile of SW chips (free on Green & EE). Chop potatoes into chips or wedges, par-boil for a few mins. Drain as much as poss, spray an oven tray with Frylight, lay the chips on in a layer and spray them with Frylight again. You can add a sprinkling of garlic salt or other free spicy seasoning. Cook in a hot oven for around 30 mins, turning them if necessary. It's a bit trial and error on the cooking front, depending on the thickness of the chips.

I had a lady in my group several years ago who weighed in at 27 stone. The weight just fell off her and she could get away with cheating a bit here and there. It was a pleasure to have her in group because everyone waired with baited breathe for her weigh-in every week and she used to get a massive round of applause when her loss was read out.

You should never feel ashamed of yourself, be proud you're making the effort to change.

You can do it and by following the plan 100%, you're guaranteed a result. Imagine how proud of you your children will be and what a good example you're setting for a life-times healthy eating within the family.

    Go girl!!!!!!!!!!!!:j

Edited to add: other breakfast choices for EE:
Poached egg and beans (on toast if you want to use your HEB).
Omelette filled with tomatoes, mushrooms, peppers.
    Bacon butty using HEB bread.
Full English using eggs, bacon, mushrooms, baked beans, tomatoes and some chopped potatoes cooked in Frylight (yummy but not quick).
I let my mind wander and it never came back!
  • Hi there

I have started back on the SW journey today & am busy planning my meals etc

Can anyone advise any ways to add flavour/richness to meals without adding syns (or very low syn ideas)

I have thought of these so far
    bovril
    marmite
    siy sauce
    worcester sauce
    herbs

if it helps I tend to cook a lot of soups & stews etc as we have two primary school aged children

    many thanks
