  • Hello please can I join you? I'm vegetarian, aged 60 and weigh 15.5 so I am really unhealthy and worried about developing diabetes, which I realise will probably happen if I don't lose some weight soon, plus I want to look better. I have realised that low carb high protein may help me lose weight quicker, but being veggie I'd always thought this was not possible. I tend to eat snacks all thro the day instead of 3 meals a day. I've just started celebrity slim shakes which I like (iced coffee) so I have 2 a day which gives good amount of protein, and then I try for 1 low carb normal meal, plus 2 snack a day.
So far I haven't kept it going continuously because when I go for a meal with friends its hard to eat low carb for a veggie who doesn't eat fish either. So I need encouragement and ideas, and I can see there are some other veggies on here. I don't really understand all the rules, so I'm just having a quorn main with some veggies, or a cheese and egg salad. Just hope I can do it.

I'm cooking, but I was thinking about veg chips?
I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.

Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.

Welcome - if you go to the very first post in this thread you will find plenty of great recipes. There are also low carb websites with some good recipes. If you have time to read over some of the previous posts in this thread there is a lot of helpful advice and tips. I started low carb veggie meals about 4 weeks ago and already I have dropped 2 dress sizes. :jStick with it and you should very quickly see some positive results. Good luck.:)

    Hi Peeps

    i`m back!

After low carbing a good while ago and then half heartedly starting again i`m giving it another go.

I lost two stone and then went back to eating carbs and its all back and then some :o

I started yesterday on induction (Atkins) and i`m doing my own version of it so that i don`t get the headaches that i got before.

I really struggle with shift work and my previous downfall was finding something to take to work that i could eat in a 20 minute break without getting bored so now i`m going to take a sandwich made with lc bread. The recipe that i`m going to try is this one http://www.food.com/recipe/best-low-carb-bread-bread-machine-102631?mode=metric&scaleto=1.0&st=null

I couldn`t find the vital wheat gluten anywhere so i`ve done a bit of searching online and ordered from here http://www.honest-to-goodness.org.uk/index.php/catalogsearch/result/?q=seitan&x=0&y=0

Hopefully (if it works out well) then i`ve solved my problem.

    Yesterday i ate-:
    BF bacon and scramblies
D sausages, and a pack of ready cooked bacon
Tea a piece of cheese and a lc shake (shake powder left over from last time) then a bit of mince in a pot topped with a few spoons of mashed swede

Naughty snacks were a few squares of dark choccy and a few tablespoons of red wine Not really recommended but this morning i woke without the headache :j I`m not a huge water drinker so i`ve been drinking about 6-8 cups of fruit tea per day, i`m weird in that i keep reusing the same teabag until its well and truly dead but cuts the costs a bit. I`m so used to it now that i could probably just drink hot water but like to leave the bag in there so maybe its really psycological :p

    Today i`ve eaten :-

BF - A piece of cheese
    D - half a ham hock
T - not sure yet either chicken legs or a couple of pork steaks I still have some of yesterdays mince that i can heat up so may have that but there is no swede left.
Snacks later will probably be the same as yesterday :D

Alcohol always stalls me even one glass of wine so i`m limiting myself to a tiny bit just to sip at and so far so good, as i said this is my way of doing induction so probably looks a bit strange to everyone else lol

I`ll be introducing some veggies early too as i already have a savoy cabbage in the house and some cauli too so plan on having a cauli based pizza in a couple of days. May use some to mash and top the mince that i have left. I need to get cooking some meals for DH that i can just leave in the fridge for him to heat up.

I`m a serial weigher *sighs* and i tend to hop on the scales every morning - i`ve lost my first lb today :j

Anyhow now that i`ve rambled away i`ll leave you all in peace, just thought that i`d pop in and say hello to you all.

Oh hey Sunny. I was wondering where you'd got to <hugs>

Your story is similar to mine. I'm stuffed, having just had a huge steak with an equally huge salad: including tomatoes, which Dr Atkins wouldn't approve of, but boy was it yummmeeeee! (Must confess to having had some whiskey which 'needed' using too.. but as long as I don't go and raid the kitchen in an hour or so, I can cope with that....)

Anyway, yes, hello. Lovely to see you again :)

    :D Hellloooo hannoja

its good to "see" a friendly face IYKWIM, i`ve only looked at the last few posts and i didn`t recognise anyone lol.

Well since my last post i`ve eaten some dark choccy and some corned beef :p

Not on my eating plan today but i`ve got the day off and i`m on my own so i`ve indulged in 3 back to back episodes of Spooks hence the corned beef. I wasn`t really hungry but i needed something to snack on.

Its now gone dark outside an my washing is still out
What a topsy turvy day, i need to drag the hoover out now and have a good clean around whilst there are no paws to get in the way :D

I`m looking forward to reading what you get up to :D

Yes, same here! (No offence to any of the other posters: life just moves too quickly sometimes hehe!)

Mmm... dark choccy... <drools> We've got some of that in the cupboard: 70% and 85% I think, from Mr T's - as they didn't have any of the Ryelands I like ('cause it's in individual bars, so stops me thinking, 'oh just one more piece..' :o )

Ooh, Spooks. I like that too :)

    HELP!

Started Atkins 3 weeks ago. First week I lost 2lb, second week just 1lb and today - nothing!!

During the first 2 weeks of induction I reckon my carb intake was less than 20g carbs per day, and during last week I rarely, if ever reached 25g (which I believe is the amount I'm meant to increase to).

I'm gutted! I only have a stone to lose so I'm wondering if this could be the reason.

I have to say though that prior to this diet my sugar intake was MASSIVE (Junk food addict) - so I genuinely thought that I would lose loads, partly due to decrease in sugar and partly due to decrease in calories (I ate loads of sweets, cakes, biscuits in massive quantities).

I can't even use the argument that even though my carbs are less than 25g per day, I could be eating loads of calories with meat and nuts etc - because I'm not. I never have loads of meat on the plate, just a piece of chicken or some bacon. And I've only had about 5 brazil nuts on two days. I won't buy anymore in case I'm tempted to eat loads.

Why am I not losing weight when I hear others say they lose loads.

I've got a box of after eight mints in the cupboard and I swear they can speak. I can hear them calling....

Lol, my sympathies to you Cagneyfan.

I know from experience that so many things can affect the loss that sometimes its difficult to work out which one is stalling you.

I know that at TOTM i can put on 6 or 7lb
Alcohol does me too (but i`ve just partaken half a glass of amaretto):o

My total loss since last posting is 5lb BUT i can now fasten the first button on my work trousers :D I would normally have had to lose a stone to get that done :D

There will be underlying changes which you won`t notice for a while and then all of a sudden you will notice that something is different. It will be working but you won`t necessarilly see all the results on the scales straight away. Trust me - i`ve been there a couple of times :D

I`m still waiting for the vital wheat gluten to be delivered *sighs* the couriers web site is carp and nothing updates for a while on the parcel tracking and then a few things appear all at once. If i do like the bread and decide to re-order the ingredients i shall be asking first if they will use a different courier and not Hermes. I`m back at w*rk now so you can bet your bottom dollar that the useless so and so`s will try to deliver it tomorrow!

Two possibilities - one: you're not eating enough - although you can't eat endless calories, you may need more than you're eating now to keep your metabolism going; two: you may be losing inches without changing weight - muscle is heavier than fat so if you're replacing the fat with muscle you might not see a difference on the scales. It's worth taking measurements every week.
