    Just my opinion!

You have to eat just those things for two weeks, if you introduce other foods you're not doing it right. To be honest its a very difficult eating plan to stick to as it's not "normal" unless you're planning on following low carb for a long time its just a quick fix thing.

Low carb diets work very well for some people but are seen as a lifestyle/dietary choice rather than a short term diet, they work very well for some diabetics.

  • Hi there niceday999,

I am so sorry I just spotted your question asking me how I discovered I am insulin resistance. I had routine blood test, they usually check cholesterol etc. but I was called back to have the test repeated because my blood sugar levels were a bit high. The 2nd test showed an even higher blood sugar level so I had a glucose tolerance test done at hospital which confirmed that i am insulin resistant. I am trying to read up a bit about the condition and it certainly explains why I find it so easy to gain weight and so hard to lose it...and possibly why I feel so sleepy after eating (carbs)

I am looking into buying a couple of books from Amazon to try and help myself deal with the IR as the advice given by the diabetic nurse was frankly quite rubbish. I am afraid that due to very poor lifestyle choices I have been very inactive and have piled on a lot of weight - 5ft1in tall and at my heaviest a couple of months ago I was 15 stone 7lbs. Now down to 14 stone 10lbs and trying to be more active. In addition to the insulin resistance I need to deal with the fact that I am an emotional over-eater.

Anyway enough about me, how are things going for you?
  • Can I recommend Blood Sugar 101 - either the book or the website. I have been following the advice for over a year, lost over a stone and now have normal blood sugars because I know what I can eat without raising my glucose levels too high. Blood test strips are essential, used intensively for a couple of months and then just when you eat new things. Good luck :-)

  • Just thought I would say hi ! Newbie to this forum, on Atkins day 6 lost 6 lbs so far :) initial aim is to lose 2 stone by Xmas then set another goal once I get there.

Got a slight problem now, got a cold grrrr, and I don't have much of an appetite...should I just listen to when my body tells me I am hungry, or try and eat something so I don't go into starvation mode? I am sure one of you wise LCers can advise me :)
Let's get ready to bumble! :rotfl:

After a very good success with Atkins where I never put the weight back on I am starting again tomorrow. I am 9st 11 at the moment and ideal weight would be 8st 7lb which should put me comfortably back in my size 8's. I have been on a low calorie diet for a while but have stalled so I think it is time to take out the big guns and use Atkins to shed the last few pounds. Anyone else just starting?
  • I started 10 days ago but count me in and good luck.

I'm kinda on board! Being a veggie it's abit hard doing it tottally by the book.
    But here's my mission. To lose 2.5 - 3stones by 10th December.
It's a BIG task but I can only try. To be honest it's not really the scales it's my dress size. Trying to get back down to a 10 from a 16.
May the force be with me :(
    Good luck chum :D
