There's lots of useful knowledge and friendly people on this site - https://www.diabetes.co.uk/diabetes-forum/viewforum.php?f=18

Read "Viv's Modified Atkin's Diet" and take it from there.
  • I've been eating next-to-zero carb for two years, and find this place extremely helpful:-

The more you control your carbs the less drugs you will need which will reduce the risk of complications in the long term

You might find that the DiabetesUK site is helpful. Insulin resistance is the precursor to Type II diabetes so it must be taken seriously.

Talk to Eric Pisch, on the 'I wanna....lose weight' board. He's doing what's called the 'paleo diet' i.e. what we are evolved to eat from the time when we were hunter-gatherers. This involves mainly proteins and low carbs.

I'm doing the Dukan Diet: www.dukandiet.co.uk

Alternatively, you could simply cut down severely on all refined carbs - anything containing white flour and white sugar. That could include: white bread, pasta, white rice, cakes, biscuits, pastry, chips, anything like that. And also refined sugars would include sweets, chocolate, ice-cream, those kind of things. Start by going through your kitchen and getting rid of all such items.

Not surprising! I've been told over many years 'lose weight, lose weight' but at no stage has any doctor suggested 'how'.
