If the onion is too chunky you could always grate it into the mix (makes your eyes water mind)
To stop your eyes watering while chopping onions breathe through your mouth not your nose:) once the fumes from the onions hit the nerves at the back of your nose (sorry don't know technical terms), your eyes will water, if you breathe into your throat, no problem:DThank you for this site MartinThe time for change has comeGood luck for the future0 -
ciderwithrosie wrote: »Yep, use a fattier mince instead of lean meat and artificial oil - what you got against natural fats out of interest? Bought burgers have a lot of extras added. If the onion is too chunky you could always grate it into the mix (makes your eyes water mind), my mum had to do this when we were kids as my brother didn't like onion (well thought he didn't). Were your herbs new? Only they lose their flavour after a little while. Did you add salt and pepper?
Other things you could add....
Chillies and cumin/coriander
blue cheese
minced smoked bacon
a beef oxo
tomato puree
garlic
mustard or horseradish
chopped mint and leek (with lamb mince)
jerk seasoning with pork mince
Oyster sauce or soy sauce
chinese five spice with some garlic and ginger
Hubby makes chicken ones with thai seasonings for our summer barbeques.

I always find home made burgers a bit lacking in flavour too.
As i said though, i add fresh chlilli, cumin, coriander and some salt n black pepper.
Tbh, i think over flavoured food, either has too much salt or too many additives, and i'm used to not having much salt, packet ham for example tastes sooo salty to me now.
I have cheese on my burgers too, that helps with the flavour, and my sons have relish so i'm sure that helps
It's only been a few days and i'm sick of eggs for breakfast already
I had two crispbreads and low sugar jam today but when you've had a lie on and are starving it just doesn't cut it
I wish i could limit myself to some carbs first thing like you eric but i just go mad for them once i start so its all or nothing i'm afraid
Oh, for peeling onions.. contact lenses0 -
Hi all - just a quick sneak in, still working myself up to being 100% better!
Came across a recipe on M&S website for Butternut Squash topped Cottage Pie - will be making this soon as a test.

PS - the small amount of flour can 1) be discounted or 2) not used.0 -
As butternut squash is around 10-11g carbs per 100g weight, celeriac could be a better option at approx 5g per 100g. You can mash it, make chips with it, add it to stews/soups, dauphinois it and make coleslaw with it - I add a little carrot, a bit of grated onion, salt, pepper, ground cumin and coriander and some mustard seeds, and a good dollop of mayonnaise and a dash of cider vinegar. I hate proper celery but love celeriac, even though it does look a bit like 'Jabba the Hut' before you prepare it.

Try putting in different herbs, and also try some spices. Usually put in cumin, coriander, bit of chilli powder and garam masala and they taste nice. Also I usually put in some chorizo or bacon ti give them more flavour (I use this for meatballs too)
If you're worried about fats, then try turkey or pork mince as it's leaner.** Total debt: £6950.82 ± May NSDs 1/10 **** Fat Bum Shrinking: -7/56lbs **

I do it all because I'm scared.

ok the time has come for me to bid you all farewell im afraid - im off to diet pastures new ......
i simply cant keep up with LC'ing at the moment - im fine mon - fri but at the weekend i want treats - not massively unhealthy things but some pitta and dips new potatoes with my dinner a peice of toast with my breakfast but as we all know you cant go off plan with LC as you get the worst of both worlds - high fat high carb = high weight gain very quickly !!
so im off to try slimming world and im going to join up properly and go to the meetings and stuff - am sick of being unhappy with how i look in the mirror
i didnt pay over 9k for 2 tummy tucks and lipo to be fed up about my body and thats all down to me
after i recovered i was 10' 6lbs and i felt great and its crept up and up with holidayds christmas and more recently comfort eating due to stress
so that will be my goal wieght and i am guessing it will mean about a 21lb loss - havent weighed in ages as was scared to but can see how i look and more importantly how tight and uncomfortable everything feels
i even contemplated getting a pair of size 14 work trousers so they were more comfortable but i came to my senses and realised it was the top of the slippery slope !!!
mucho hugs xxxx:j MFi3 wannabee :j
