  • Morning all :hello:

Am I the first one up??

Feeling a bit yuck this morning with a sore throat, don't understand it, thought gargling with red wine last night would have helped!!

Has anyone tried Prestat choxi?? It's 'the naturally rich in antioxidants cacao bar' according to the blurb on the bright pink wrapper!! Got it from Tesco yesterday, bit of a treat as it cost £1.99 for a 70g bar so it had better be good!!

Anyway, hope everyone is doing ok. It's a nice morning here so might get out for a long walk later

Sweet I've had a sore throat for ages now, it's eased a bit but it's still there so whatever's doing the rounds just now is a pain (in more ways than one, lol). Hope you get shot of yours soon.

Never heard of that chocolate bar, might look out for it though. :D

OH and I were at the pictures last night but strangely I didn't want sweets and rubbish to nibble on which is unusual for me. Mind you, that goes for nothing because tonight we're going out for a meal with the visitors. :D

Happy Thursday everyone, hope you have a good day.

Diamonds, i've got a link to a great recipe for lc bread but the sit is down for maintenance, remind me and i'll post it when its back up.
Here is a pic of the bread i made from the recipe, its very much like wholemeal, freezes well, but doesn't toast too well.

and a pizza i made with the dough as a base

    Hi Mazzers

Do you think this is the recipe?

    Flax bread Foccacia
    Prep Time: 15 minutes
    Cook Time: 20 minutes
    Ingredients:
    • 2 cups flax seed meal
    • 1 Tablespoon baking powder
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 1-2 Tablespoons sweetening power from artificial sweetener
    • 5 beaten eggs
    • 1/2 cup water
    • 1/3 cup oil
    Preparation:
Preheat oven to 350 F. Prepare pan (a 10X15 pan with sides works best) with oiled parchment paper or a silicone mat.

    1) Mix dry ingredients well -- a whisk works well.

    2) Add wet to dry, and combine well. Make sure there aren't obvious strings of egg white hanging out in the batter.

    3) Let batter set for 2 to 3 minutes to thicken up some (leave it too long and it gets past the point where it's easy to spread.)

    4) Pour batter onto pan. Because it's going to tend to mound in the middle, you'll get a more even thickness if you spread it away from the center somewhat, in roughly a rectangle an inch or two from the sides of the pan (you can go all the way to the edge, but it will be thinner).

    5) Bake for about 20 minutes, until it springs back when you touch the top and/or is visibly browning even more than flax already is.

    6) Cool and cut into whatever size slices you want. You don't need a sharp knife; I usually just cut it with a spatula.

I'm sure I copied it when you posted the link originally & I think this may be the one.

Wasn't that one dobie but have had a good root around in all my files and found it :j

Not made for ages as i thought it was lost.

    Low Carb Bread

half cup oat flour (i use porridge and grind in magic bullet)
half cup of any nut flour (again, magic bullet.. i use brazils, almonds or a mix of nuts)
    half cup ground linseeds
1 cup gluten flour (unfortunately only available online)
half teaspn sugar (dont use sweetener as its to feed the yeast)
    half teaspn salt
one and a half teaspn baking powder
    1 pkt dried yeast
    3 tablespn olive oil
    270 ml blood warm water

1/ add sugar and some of warm water to yeast until slightly frothy
2/ sift gluten flour into a large bowl, add other dry ingredients and mix
3/ add yeasty mix and rest of water and olive oil
4/ knead for 5 mins ( i time this as it needs a good knead to 'loosen up' the gluten )
put into oiled loaf tin or onto baking tray, cover with a damp tea towel and leave to rise for an hour somewhere nice and warm
the recipe says to bake in hot oven for 10 mins to kill the yeast then turn oven down to 190 degrees for about 20 mins but i found mine got too brown (burnt-ish) so i just cook for 25 to 30 mins on 190

I also keep some of the gluten flour aside to flour the table for kneading :)

Well worth the trouble getting gluten as its like proper bread, i did work out the carbs but cant remember, it is posted here somewhere from the first time i made it if anyone wants a trawl ;)

Is so bread-like, i will have to hide from middle son.
Maybe now i can start buying him his granary again.

Girls, you have got to make this if bread is your thing.

I didnt have a lot of almond flour so i blitzed mixed unsalted nuts in my magic bullet (best gadget i ever bought) and used that.
Also had no oat flour, so blitzed oats to make some.
Will be experimenting as it didnt rise hugely, and there are lots of tips.

Dont know if i can control myself tho :o

Whole loaf weighs 600g and is 60g carbs.. so each gram of weight is 0.1g carbs.
So.. 1 thick slice weighs 60g making it 6g carbs per slice.
    I think thats right.
Was never very good with figures tho.

Woo hoo, this will be a regular. Wonder  if it freezes well

The link for anyone who is gonna make it.

Had a quick trawl and found my original post :) so depends how thick you want to slice it, and what nuts you use, but at approx 60g carbs for the whole loaf, it certainly beats most of the seedy breads in the shops.

Oh and it does freeze well.

Hi there everyone. I'm restarting Atkins for the umpteenth time on Monday having taken inspiration from the New Atkins, New You book which I just bought. With that book, support here and on a low carb forum I'm aiming to do it right this time and am spending the weekend making sure I have all the right foods and vitamins ready.

Previously when I've tried low carbing I bought vitamins from H&B but they are huge and I have difficulty swallowing them:o. Can anyone suggest any other source which supplies smaller tablets which I can try?
