What jo says. And really important to steer away from processed muck (partic those low carb choc bars, which play havoc with your insides). THe idea is to wean yourself away from the processed stuff that made you fat. I would suggest that if you haven't done a low carb diet before you should pick one of them and buy the book; it's such a different way of eating that you may make mistakes without realising (you need to eat high fat, for example, which can be hard to get your head around). I recommend the Idiot Proof Diet, others here are Atkins advocates.0

hi, thanks for your replys, i have actually been on a meal replacement programme for two weeks which is basically carb and sugar free.however its very expensive and really restrictive so thought i would try it this way. in the last two weeks i have had no carbs, fruit or veg, just 4 packs of protein based meals so am happy to carry on without bread/rice/pasta etc and just get a low amount of carbs from my veg, but i am really really missing fruit so do you think it would be okay to have just a few strawberries/raspberries each weekend as a treat or is it still too early to introduce these without completely blowing it?... dont really eat too much processed food either, my downfall was a carb heavy diet and too much of it...am genuinely feeling better from not eating them and wont go back to them.. i also really hate cream/yoghurt/full fat milk ...is this gonna cause huge problems???..sorry for dumb questions and thanks for your help.0

I hate cream too but strangely can take it well cooked into something. I use it as a base for my cheese sauce. I haven't had yoghurt since I started, (some peeps have greek yoghurt) and I still have semi-skimmed milk in my tea (and Splenda sweetener, lol).
As for the fruit, a small amount now and then wont harm you.Herman - MP for all!0 -
Also you can't genereally eat yogurt or milk. The only yogurt that is low enoughi n carbs is Lidl's big bucket of greek yog or Total yog. Milk in any form is a no no except lactofree.0

Hi everyone,
day four of lcing and i`ve had a sneaky weigh in when i first got up and i`ve lost 3lb :j:j that makes me feel a lot better especially as totm started today too so i wasn`t really expecting to lose any.
I`ve been to Holland & Barratt today as their coconut oil is half price atm. I didn`t really need any just yet as i`ve some left from last time but i keep pinching some every now and again as a moisturiser.
Debtfree - I love a good lc brekkie, most days i have bacon sausage scrambled eggs in butter and mushrooms and i really look forward to it as it sets me up for the day. Some days if i`m in a rush i`ll have the scramblies and smoked salmon but i only buy the salmon on offer. I love carrots but they are quite high carb if i remember rightly, cauliflower is good though.
Dinner today will be sardines in sunflower oil as they are on offer in Morrisons at 4 tins for £1.50. I`m determined to do this on a budget this time so that i can stick at it
Not sure whats for tea yet, i`ve just put all the shopping away so i need to add it all up for the grocery challenge and then adapt my meal plan to use what i`ve bought. I quite enjoyed myself today going around all the different shops picking up the offers.

Yeah, it's tough doing lc on a budget. Over on the IPD board they call it the Poshkins diet! You just can't compete with cheap pasta and potatoes. I'd rather be thin than rich anyway, so I don't mind spending for good food!0

I`m finding that by shopping around this week i`m not spending much more than i normally would anyway. If i went to just one or two places then it`d hit my purse badly, as long as i can stock up when the prices are right then all should be ok.
On another note my freezer is now rammed to the gills with lovely foodbut it badly needs defrosting
I`m going to have to pack everything tightly together and defrost it with the hair dryer and pans of hot water so that i can get everything back in it quickly. Think i shall schedule that little job when i get a few days off together otherwise it won`t get done.
Just eaten the sardines and i`m thinking maybe sausages and leeks for tea later and then salami and cheese for a snack. I`ve already had two sausages for breakfast but there are two that need using up. Could have cod and leeks i suppose, can you tell that i`ve not done my meal planner properly yet

Debt Free The difficult bit about low carb is that it is quite long term and you really can't cheat at all. Some people struggle with this as it can be quite boring. Luckily I love cauliflower cheese and can eat this almost every day. For breakfast I usually have boiled eggs, mainly green salad - tuna, mackeral or chicken and dinner is meat and 2 veg. Snacks are usually cheese or nuts. Buy yourself a carb counter and if you stick to it you will lose weight. The weight loss is high for the first few weeks and then slows down. You really can't take a day off at the weekend or for birthdays etc. You will find it better if you make up an excuse to tell people as low carb is seen by some as a real problem.0

Morning peeps :hello:
We were on the bottom of page 2 this morning!! Keep posting or we'll disappear altogether!!
alias, I don't want to confuse this thread by talking about low-gi but I did it a few years ago by reading the Sunday Times information (Amanda Ursell). At one point Tesco were endorsing low-gi & had the 'traffic light' symbols on some of their products. I've got a booklet from the Sunday Times plus a book that I got free (Rick Gallop/Tesco) that lists low/medium/high gi foods.
The Sunday Times articles are still available (from 2005) - this is one of them, but if you search Times Online they all still come up:

Hope everyone doing ok. I haven't been able to access FB properly for ages so hope Mercy & daisy doing ok :kisses3:
Have a lovely Easter weekend eating chocolate everyone (just make sure it's minimum 70% cocoa!!) :EasterBun Nomnomnom!!0
