Ok, I've just read all the pages I'd missed & there have been some roller-coaster ups & downs by the sounds of it.
Really don't know what to suggest for those peeps that are struggling with low-carbMaybe some time off?? A new WOE?? I don't know??
I will say that changing my diet to low-gi seems to be suiting me (for the time being anyway, but tis early days lol!!). As you know I lurve the low-carb food, but I think I had too many yo-yo stops-starts & it was starting to get me down. It certainly wasn't healthy what I was doing with the pig-outs followed by being angelic followed by pig-outs & weight going up & down like a yo-yo.
One thing I've noticed with low-gi is that my moodiness & general bad temper has gone. I am eating oestrogen-rich foods & also foods that keep blood sugars stable so I think that's played a part. Plus I'm getting out every day for a walk. I'm still learning about low-gi but I do think it's helping to curb my irrational hormonal mood swings!!I just seem to be in a more positive frame of mind generally.
Carp things are still happening to me *understatement* (my kids nearly got run over yesterday _pale_:( & we found out last week that hubby is facing the possibility of redundancy _pale_:() but I seem to be coping with things better, not like the old me at all!!
Anyway, I hope everyone that's feeling low perks up soon. Big hugs to anyone that needs them. :kisses3:0 -
Jeez sweet, that must have been one helluva shock...bout the kids I mean. Sorry to hear about hubby, fingers crossed for him.
Got any links for low GI things? Don't know anything about it but think I need to consider other options .
Nice to see you posting btw, I feel more settled with all my fellow sufferers around. I don't like it when people leave. :rotfl:Herman - MP for all!0 -
I had a strange dream last night. I dreamt I was attending a new exercise class with people I didn't know. It was held in a library and the corridor from the street to the library room was a disabled access ramp. The room itself was small and had desks and tables in it. The instructor stood in the middle of the room and me and the people I went with, were on the ramp but obviously we couldn't see anything or join in properly.
I didn't understand why they didn't push the tables to the side so make the space more useable so I suggested it. We all moved the tables then everyone just sat down until it was time to go home. The people I went with left the building first and I couldn't find them. I couldn't remember where the car was parked and I didn't know what to do. I walked up and down the streets but I was just lost and couldn't get home. I woke up feeling very unsettled. I have no idea what all that means but I'm sure it's indicative of something.
I have nooooooo idea what I'm doing for food today. I'm fed up of everything again and really am not sure what's best to do. Where the Hell is the witch in Snow White when you need her. A few years asleep would be just the ticket methinks. :rotfl:Herman - MP for all!0 -
Hating this weather, that brings you down
I'm at a loss too, i like low carb food and find it easy to grab things (otherwise it seems to be bread)
But am still waiting to hear about my glucose tolerance test, so want to stay off lc til after that.0 -
Ok then...I gave in...I had cauli as a base for bolognese sauce the other night...left the cauli in chunks though as still can't get my head around the idea of mashing it...was nice, will be doing it again
Been sick with a virus for a few days but have not been doing too badly on the carb front...not impressed by the amount of chocolate that has appeared in our kitchen though  OH wanted mini eggs for easter nest cakes so bought a bag for him, and then family and friends keep giving us all this chocolate. I'm not that mad about chocolate fortunately, I don't get cravings for it, but it is so easy to eat it when it's there, without particularly enjoying it. I am trying to maintain a policy of "do I really like this?" If not, don't bother with it, if I do and it's high carb type stuff then I allow myself the occasional treat of it.
Was OH's birthday at weekend too so cakes keep appearing - have sent most of them to work with him
Am coughing my guts up the whole time and trying to work out next month's menu...it's not going well, think I'll go back to watching old classic Eastenders clips on youtube instead...

Hello. I'm feeling very, very frustrated today. I've been looking at Alizonne (expensive fat-busting treatment) and having fantasy weight loss and wishing like crazy I had a magic wand. I'm half-serious about Alizonne. I know it would work, and I also know the maintenance would be hard, but then I could always go back to low carb as I know that I can at least maintain on that... Gah. I just so want to be pregnant again but I don't want to do it until I'm in a much better place weight wise. I'm so frustrated with myself for not really really buckling down and losing consistently every week; what's wrong with me? Why can't I link my desire to expand my family with my idiot brain and stick to the eating plan?

OK. All of you come out with your hands up. Where the hell are you? And what's that packet in your hand? Do I smell chocolate?0

I'm here. Can't sleep. Went to bed at 11pm, fell asleep and woke at midnight. Then 1 am, 2am, 3am and at 4am I gave up and got up.
Got a slight but annoying cough that wont shift and can't sleep cos OH is on late shift this week. He got in at 1am but didn't come to bed until 3am. I'm annoyed at him sitting up til then whilst I was lying upstairs unable to sleep cos he's not in the bed but I know that's completely unreasonable so I've got my grumbly self out of bed and I'm having a cuppa.
And yes, I had chocolate. SIL and nephew were supposed to be visiting for Easter this weekend. I'd got in loads of stuff as I was going to do an Easter Egg treasure hunt for him and my daughter. They're not coming now and the place is awash with the stuff. I had a chocolate Buzz Lightyear.(It wasn't even nice.)
sarah, I wish I could wave that magic wand for you (and me and everyone else here, lol). I have no suggestions at all I'm afraid but I do have bucketloads of sympathy. We are our own worst enemies sometimes and I for one have no idea how not to be. :undecidedHerman - MP for all!0 -
hi, i am about to start a low carb plan and think i understand it but was hoping someone could confirm what i think is right.. i am going to cut out all obvious carbs, eat meat, cheese, eggs, veg and a little fruit , berries seem to be allowed in moderation. i have been looking at thread for hints, tips and recipes and i am going to try out some of the recipes for "bread" and "cakes" etc, and also aim to drink 2-3 litres water a day. what i am hoping is that i can get some meal suggestions or feedback on my planned menus, i was thinking that for breakfast i could have.. eggs, bacon, mushrooms, lunch could be...chicken salad or garlic mushrooms and cheese with salad, and dinner could be meat and veg with sugar free jelly..any snacks could be ham, cheese , carb free choc bar etc... am i on the right lines here ? only it all sounds so lovely and undiet-like lol...other questions are ...what size portion is acceptable?..are any veg/salad items off limits?..am thinking in particular of tomatoes, onions, beetroot, carrots and swede/turnip? ... finally does anyone know of a good place to buy carb free items? sorry if i am asking the obvious but want to do this right..fed up of being fat!!... thanks to anyone who can help me0

When you first start low carbing, it's best to stick to unprocessed fresh basics and no chocolate at all and really no jelly either sugar free or not. Fruit is also a no go in the first couple of weeks because of it's high sugar content.
Atkins suggests 20g of carb per day in total for the first 2 weeks at least. This is to give your body time to adapt and stop all carb cravings. There's a carb counter here...download it to your desktop and it will give you an idea at least as to what's high and what's not..

There are veg that are lower carb than others and yes you still do need to watch portion size but don't get too hung up on that in the early days, the carb count is the most important thing.
Personally, when I do this properly, I stick to the 20gms of carb per day rule and when it comes to salad and veg, if I can keep my day's eating under that amount then I'll eat it. If not then I'll avoid the higher carb veg. Same with portion size, I tend to have a 2 egg omelette with 2 rashers of bacon or a sausage (or 2 if I've found really low carb ones) for breakfast, lunch is tuna mixed with a little mayo on a small salad bed and dinner is chicken stuffed with cream cheese, green beans and sat on a bed of grated, pan fried cauliflower with a little cream mixed through it.
It's trial and error for the first few days till you get the hang of it.Good luck and feel free to ask anything you like, there's loads of knowledgeable peeps here.
