I have got out my SW books, going to give red days a whirl, hopefully for a month to see what happens to my sugars.

Just had a tuna salad with lc crispbreads and cheese spread, just like lc really, except fruit allowed and fat isn't.
Strange not having fat, but will suit me as i prefer to eat fruit and dont really like fatty foods.
Will be making lots of soup to fill me up too.

If i promise not to post my menus, will anyone mind if i stay?
Will just report weight loss and the odd sugar level for comparison to lc.

Might be back soon though, depending on sugars.

A few pages back someone mentioned the cravings.....my frind who has done a lot of reaserch re; candia and thrush...says that you get very hungry and have thses massive cravings for sugar because as the yeast dies off ...it creates these cravings because it is trying to survie...........

The cravings we were talking about were related to the TOTM though so that suggests there's more to it and that hormones play a part somewhere along the line.

Yet another reason why I'm coming back as a man in my next life. :D

    Sorry Mazzers, what's SW?

My only worry reading the stuff is that if it's low fat, and low carb, isnt' there a danger of the 'rabbit starvation' thing? Or am I misunderstanding and it's not low carb at all?
  • Afternoon all! :hello::hello::hello:

Been lurking here for a few months. I am allergic to the word "diet" *twitches at the thought", but since Christmas have been "reprogramming" my eating habits. A major part of this has been cutting down on carbs, and it seems to be working as I have gone down a clothing size since Christmas :)

I have not posted before because I thought I might not be regarded as a "true" low-carber as I do have a small amount of bread (scheduled into the plan, rather than those OMG I need to toast a whole loaf of bread and scoff it type moments...), I don't eat bacon and eggs for breakfast (as much I would like to), and I don't "do" substitutes (like turning cauliflower into rice - I'm sure it's nice, but I'd rather find other ways of eating)

This is what has been working for me so far:

Breakfast - Is usually bran flakes/weetabix with skimmed milk, or porridge at the weekend with skimmed milk (Skimmed because I hate creamy stuff)

Lunch - At work is usually a sandwich with homemade bread, filled with chicken or salmon type things + sugar free jelly + tinned pineapple (yes, fruit I know, but I read that pineapple is really high in vit c, and that regular consumption helps ward off colds and things - I usually catch every cold/sniffle going, and since I started on a daily dose of pineapple a year ago, I've not had a single cold or sniffle, apart from pig flu, which doesn't count :D)

Dinner - Bread/potatoes/pasta/rice are all off the menu in the evenings, so dinners have been things like bacon and tomato frittata with salad, or turkey steak with pesto and mozzarella served with salad, or braised pork with fennel served with green veg, or salmon with garlic and ginger with salad, or beef and mushroom goulash with green veg.

I drink alcohol Fri-Sun only normally, don't eat cakes, biscuits, and make everything from scratch (well nearly, I refuse to faff about making my own pesto, open jar done :D).

My weight has been up and down faster than Jordan's knickers over the years - when I was 14/15 I lost a LOT of weight by stupid means, and became absolutely obsessed with counting calories and weighing myself. I now have no idea how much I weigh, and have no intention of finding out. I am going by how my clothes fit and my measurements (which are known only to me :D))

The biggest problem for me is the cost of meat really. Previously I used to eat a lot of vegetarian dishes and only had meat 2-3 times a week. I would love to hear more about veggie low carb meals so am open to suggestions from people.

I know I am not a "proper" low carber like you lot, so am going to post this and try avoid being pelted with cauliflower leaves for daring to gatecrash :D:D:D

    Slimming world.

It's not lc at all on green days, but red days suit me better, (free meat, very limited whole grains but fruit is free, also most veg free) so not really lc at all, but will keep it lowish.

Ah ok. Never done Slimming World. I was always Weight Watchers in the old days. Interestingly (this was the mid 1980s) they used to be based on low carb, not that they admitted it. So your 'bread' count was limited to three a day (this included potatoes, rice, pasta - basically any carbs), while your protein was six a day, fats were three, veg was four, I think (though you had to avoid certan veg, like peas).... sounds familiar! Fruit was quite low too. It worked for me then too, I got to goal in six months and kept it down for quite a while.

I have been reading a book called the holford diet by Patrick Holford. he says controlling blood sugar is the only way to lose weight. he advocates small regular meals , with a balance of protein ( meat ,fish and pulses) wholegrains some fat and veg . he says when you eat fruit you should have some protein with it like a small handfull of nuts to help balance the sugar( he recommends that you only eat half a banana because they have lots of sugar in them ). you should keep away from refined carbs. its very interesting and in light of mazzers research I am wondering about doing that. ( he also advocates vit/ mineral and fish oil supplements)

I enjoy lcarbing though so I may stick with it until I definitely make up my mind

mazzers please stay I am just getting to know people
