was that Esther Rantzen's daughter? was going to have an early night, but started watching it and watched to the end. Shoud have recorded it to show my DD (11) who doesnt get cocopopos or frosties for breakfast, no white bread (HM in breadmaker) or fizzy drinks etc. and thinks its not fair cos her most of her friends get these. I do make white bread as an occasional treat and she does get the odd bottle of pop every now and then a fancy cereal. It might help her to understand why I try to feed her healthy foods. Unfortunately she seems to have a sweet tooth.
Hi Fruity car
yes it is Ester Rasons daughter..i too am like that with my kids they only have fizzy drinks when we go out for lunch (not that often) £1 a week for sweets on a saturday, they have only cereal very rarely mainly toast..
Luckily they are very lean 13yrs and 10 yrs.I seem to have been plump all my life and fatter the last 16 yrs...
I am hoorified to see school children walking to school eating sweets and crisps and fizzy drinks...oh dont get me on my soap box.......
maybe watch the program on I player with her...then she will know you are not a stick in the mud but have her best interests and health in mind.
Pure white and deadly was a book i read when i studied 20 yrs ago re; white flour, sugar and salt
I will say no more .....until my next post:eek:

you welcome.
I do low carb diet with toast in the morning....just make sure it is wholemeal one with as little additions as possible (i believe Cranks is the best) and use no sugar fruit spread (thinly spread) from H&B.......and no more than 2 pieces and (!) no fat or proteins at least for 3-4 hours after that.
I usually have eggs with salad for lunch after this treat in the morning...eggs because they contain chromium picolinate...
This works fine for me.
Also, if you are into cinnamon, dust some over the spread...lovely

Just don't eat it any other time but morning and you should be fine....
Thanks that is good to know I am better at the moment with protein shakes but I will bear that in mind oh I am one of those strange people who dont really like eggs :(

Thursday, if i have toast in the morning, everything goes to pot for the rest of the day.

I have to stay off the hi carb stuff completely now, i dont know if it's because its such an addiction or what, but seems to be like alcoholics, one glass and they cant stop, so have to stay off completely.

I wish i could manage to do that tho as brekkie is the hardest meal for me.

Happy Birthday to craftygal :)

Did you see fat families on sky recently?
The presenter, a former fatty, used to go to a shopping mall and show the crowds how bad certain foods were, and everyone was shocked at how much sugar is consumed in a year, if you have one bowl of coco pops a day, two great big plastic towers were filled ... shocking

Another good one he did was showing how much weight (in blocks of lard stacked sky high) is gained in a year by having just one large daily muffin (the cake variety)

He put two of my friends off chocolate for life :D
No sadly I didnt we got get sky 1 i would have watched it .
its it maddening that even non sweet foods have sugar in them....:eek::eek:
esp food aimed at children.

I tear my hair out about kids' food. I have searched high and low for children's yoghurts without sugar in (not sweeteners either). You can make gorgeous yogs with fruit puree, so why stuff the white stuff in (and I'm looking at you, organic-poncey-nonsense yoghurt, with your unecessary oragnic cane sugar - it's still sugar!). The only one was Rachel's little yogurts, which were sweetened with puree, but you can't get them often any more. Every single other kids' yog is stuffed with it. So my boy (five) gets greek yog with berries and honey. I know that's a sugar too but at least it's not refined pap. He also gets wholemeal bread and has no idea there's any other kind (ha ha! evil laugh) and it has never occured to him to not eat his crusts. I rarely buy him sweets as I find that he gets given plenty by well-meaning childminders and other childrens' mothers on playdates. He hates fizzy drinks so no probs there; we don't have any kind of squash at home, just fresh orange or pineapple. Which I dilute 50/50 still. Do I sound harsh? Not at all. I am a big baker, so he often gets cakes and biccies, but I know what has gone into them, and they're fresh. Makes a big difference.

Also caught the end of a program late on Monday night by Esther Rasons daughter re; the sugar industry and how much hidden sugar is in so called "healthly /normal food"she found it such a shocking eye opener..
Shame it was on so late It might have been of help to so many.
I think it could be on I player if any one wants to catch it ..
keep strong...
Can you remember what is was called? We have some sort of Sky Plus system which enables one (ooh eeerr, gone all posh now!) to search for a programme to see if it will be repeated, but one ('ere we go again!) needs to know the programme title. Thanks.

Morning :hello:
Think Dobie has wandered off with my iron self control, wondered where it had gone.

Oh no! I'm busted! :D

Or maybe this is my secret Thursday? 'Cinnamon also helps taming carbs...as does Earl Grey apparently.' I had 2 mugs of Earl Grey whilst I was there.

QUOTE 'Thursday, if i have toast in the morning, everything goes to pot for the rest of the day.' Me too mazzers. Just a taste & I go crazy. That's why I can't afford to have 'just one' despite well meaning (I think) people saying 'just one won't hurt.'

Ditto from me, couldn't agree more. Had to try and remain low carb on holiday and at Christmas cause I am not to be trusted.

:(

More peanuts than you can shake a stick at and 2 chocolate sandwich biscuits.

TOTM is approaching and all my hard work has gone to the wayside. Sodding hormones!

edit: And a bowl of Special K (yoghurt covered version)
