Hope it's a better day where you all are. It's cold and wet here.

Bought a Celeriac yesterday as I was sure someone posted that you could make low carbs snacks with it. Can't find the post but any suggestions gratefully received. Cost me just over a £1.00 in Lidl for a small one. Would be happy to buy if it tastes OK. Made some oven roasted parsnips a couple of weeks ago and burnt them. The non burnt bits tasted OK but not sure the carb count.

Successfully went to a Christmas fayre today and didn't eat anything bad in the tea room but wish it all was over a bit quicker. Worked out that I have many months of this before I get to a decent weight. Managed to get a copy of the Idiot proof diet and worked out that if you are a good cook this is all a lot easier so need some cookery lessons.

I love celeriac - haven't had it for a while but I like it grated, raw with vinegar and pepper - like strange coleslaw! Word of warning though - I love it so much I can't resist a big bowlful and it makes me windy! In fact for those struggling with - erm - bungedupedness - I'd recommend a bowl of this to fix it ;)

Sorry you're feeling a bit rough Sweets. Falling off the wagon wont make you feel better. But you know that!
I think the 85% will be too strong for the muffins. I think 70% is just right to get maximum chocolatiness. Maybe if you use 1/2 & 1/2 you could increase the sweetener a little? Warmed with some cream they were absolutely LUSH. They're worth waiting for. :D

Thanks Dobie, the stupid thing is I've bought the 85% before & it ended up in the bin because it was too strong, what was I thinking :(
Will buy some 70% today as I'm desperate to try these chocolate buns now!!

    Morning all :hello:

Don't know why I'm smiling & waving as I'm not a happy bunny again :(

First of all, I had a really bad night sleep because my hips have started to ache when I'm in bed. Too much walking?? I don't walk that much so I don't think it's that, must be my age!! :o Anyone else suffer with this??

Secondly, got weighed this morning & haven't lost a sausage :( Why not?! I've been soooo good when I really didn't feel like being good!! So feeling a bit peed off about that.

Anyway, just had a big breakfast to try & perk me up a bit during the day & I'll reduce my dinner portion size tonight. Maybe.

    B - 4 pieces bacon, 2 chipolata sausages, fried egg :o
    L - 2 low-carb crispbreads with butter & cheese
D - not sure yet but hopefully at least one chocolate bun with cream!!

Hope I perk up soon, it was only last week that I was going to post how fit & bouncy I felt, just feel lethargic & fed up now.

Hope everyone else doing ok

Sweet, my hips ache sometimes if i fall asleep on my side on the sofa for a long time, but in bed i'm fine as i've got a memory foam topper, and i recommend them, they are fantastic, i have suffered with my back in the past and been unable to bend to put socks on, i put it down to old age  but i never get any problems now.

Also, i got very peed off when i wasnt losing weight and was being exceptionally good, if you look back you'll see i was constantly moaning about it, is very disheartening.

Stick with it though, if i had i would be considerably lighter by now
  • Hi everyone

I've just started to try to follow a low-carb diet, not any one in particular (Atkins or whatever), and I've picked up a huge bunch of ideas from this thread, thanks!

But, after sticking to the diet for a couple of days now, I've found that I'm really craving something light and fruity to snack on at work. I'd usually have some melon or grapes or something like that, but I'm stumped now, what do you recommend?

I'm loving the cheese / cream / butter etc etc part of this diet, and I love being able to have steak and sauces and the like, but I'm stuck for packed-lunch fruity numbers.

I've made it up to about page 10 of this thread, so apologies if this has been covered in the next 250 or so!
Lead me not into temptation - I can find it perfectly well all by myself :D

I second this Mazzers. We bought one a couple of years ago & it made a huge difference to our aches & pains. Definitely old age in our case. :D
I'm hoping that doing yoga on the Wii Fit every day will help us to stay supple & ache free into our dotage. Can you tell I'm a bit obsessive about it at the moment? :o At least it's a healthy obsession unlike my other vices.

    Todays' menu was/is;
B Mushroom, spinach & cheese omelette
    L Tuna mayo salad
D Carbonara (with left over gammon from yesterday, cream cheese & double cream) & mashed cauli.

Hi Kathy. The lowest carb fruits are berries. I buy frozen mixed berries so I've always got some in just in case I get a craving for fruit. I sometimes make a sort of fruit fool by whizzing some up with some double cream.

What about the jelly dessert posted by someone (sorry I can't remember who.) I believe Mercy has put it in the recipe list on page one.
  • Hi Guys :D

Hope all is well where you are, things are dark and cold here in Derbyshire.

Well today has been ok (apart from a small amount of dark choc , could'nt resist, at least there is no more lerking in the house now!!), have been at work all day (normally only do half days as only work part time) but am soooooooo busy that I'm doing mondays all day for the time being. Took chicken soup and nuts to work and had a small amount of porridge for brekki (so much for phase 1!)

Am just getting my self motivated to do my Davina dvd for an hour but must admit I am struggling, would rather curl up on the sofa with a cream cake :o

Am looking forward to watching I'm a celeb with a cup of tea (d-caff of course)after I have swaeted abit first. I'm aching already!!! :j

Have a good night everyone!! x

Mercy, I know you said at least 70% chocolate for the chocolate buns, have you tried the 85%?? I was hoping to make them today & went & bought the chocolate on the spur of the moment but didn't buy enough :( Think I'll get some 70% tomorrow & use half & half as I really want them to taste as nice as possible!! Also don't have Cream of Tartar in the hoose so will have to get some. I really should read recipe ingredients!! I was sooooo disappointed that I couldn't make them today.
So, feeling a bit sorry for meself today :o hope I'm ok tomorrow as really want to stick with lcing.DON'T GIVE UP!

The cream of tartar aint necessary, just desireable. I've tried the buns half 85% and 70% Were v good. The darker it is the less I find I eat. Think all 85% maybe a bit dark though. Best were with 75% :rotfl: Though all are good. I made some with cadbury's milk for nephew but all at party agreed that the dark - 70% in that instant - were best.

I've not tried this but from absolutely EVERYTHING I've tried to make that needs sweetener I'd say replace splenda (ewww) with erythritol. Low Carb megastore does it - not cheap but IMO worth every penny!

I've not tried this yet but have heard great things. Doesn't have the laxative effect of polyols for the vast majority, I believe. Would invest but there's so little I use sweeteners in that it hasn't proved worth it yet.

  • Hi peeps :D

Feeling better tonight, decided not to go walking today to see if that makes a difference with my old hips!! :o

mazzers/Dobie, I don't like the thought of those memory foam toppers - I just think I'll sink into them like the Absorbaloff (?) character on Dr. Who!! :rotfl: Gers will know what I mean if no-one else does!! :D
I have been told that they are really comfy though so will have to think about getting one, especially if they help with my aching hips!!

Mercy, I made the chocolate buns!! :D Have only had one, so far . The chocolate taste is very strong, & I only used 100g of the 70%, so glad I didn't use any of the 85%!! My palate is used to Cadbury's milk chocolate so I think the dark stuff is an acquired taste (that I'm willing to get used to!!). Anyway, they worked out pretty well & I'm looking forward to eating more tomorrow, might actually have one or two for breakfast with whipped cream - nomnomnom!! Thank you for posting the recipe. :D

Right, I think my brain is suffering from sleep deprivation so I'm off for an early night, see you all tomorrow.
