Anybody watch that programme on Channel 4 last night about breakfasts? Was very scathing about breakfast cereal and how bad they are for you, v high sugar and salt. Really went for the big companies (Kellogs and Nestle) for pushing them as 'healthy' esp to kids.

They made a homemade choccie cake that was lower in sugar and salt than most breakfast cereals, and said you'd be better off having that than a bowl of rice crispies:rotfl:

Just reminded me how brainwashed most people are over what is 'healthy'...if I ever tell people I usually have a fried egg for brekkie they think I'm mad!

I didn't see the prog but agree totally about telling folk what I eat. They are filling up on cereal, then need a snack later, etc. I really believe breakfast is important and most start the day by setting themselves up for carb cravings

Zoomed up the M1 at silly o'clock this morning and arrived at the Metro Centre just in time for doors opening. Collected my lovely red jacket and now back home.
Ooh! Hows it look then? Sounded lovely when you described it t'other day. Trip down south was pretty much a nightmare as I encountered about 4 accidents and drove through 4 sets of 50mph limits with average cameras. Eventually got stuck on M1 30 miles from destination for about 3 hours. Mind you that's the first time in years and years and years I've been caught up in stopped traffic so can't complain too loudly. I just sat and read an Ian Banks novel, munched on pepperami's at lunchtime and drank some water - pretty good 'me time' I reckon.
Pepperami n Ian Banks sounds good to me! Love his work :)

    Well food so far

    Yesterday
B - cheese and hot dogs - yum
L - HM beef n veg curry on crushed cauli
D - Ham n brie early, Small portion of ox heart casserole on cauli later

    Today
B - cheese and hot dogs
L - Casserole on cauli as above
D - will be cheese and veg omlette, a few baby toms and lettuce, mayo.

One good thing about sleeping early is that I don't generally eat when I'm unconcious :) Well as far as I know :rotfl: Then I get up early and do the housework I missed :)

Not cheated at all since Sunday and have been upping water. Will continue all week and see if anything good has happened on Friday.

Thanks for the tip about Lidl's yogurt, will check it out soon!

Mercy - you are soooooo very good at replying to everyone, thanks!

Red Jacket is fabulous, love it and now just hoping for cold cold weather. Trouble is that my eye caught one almost the same in baby blue... :p but I'm happy to report that I resisted.

Have to agree about breakfast being the 'guide' to the day. No LC breakfast means a day of disappointment and guilt. My tub of pepperami and cheese is my salvation just now.

We have a 'dawn simulator' light in the bedroom which comes on gradually, increasing the light levels at a slow pace. It always comes out for the dark nights and mornings and helps me keep my Pollyana persona during the dark months. Website is here http://www.lumie.com/shop/products/bodyclock-advanced-200

As predicted I am feasting on white wine tonight, just to finish off the bottle before my hols. Have decided to travel north on Thursday morning (can't possibly manage tomorrow night) and get to see the Dr Who exhibition at the Kelvingrove Museum even though it costs £7.50. I'm a huge fan of the new series and am watching it as I type.

In my opinion, one is hard pushed to beat sausage n cheese for a mobile start to the day. Mixing and matching with hard boiled egg, obviously :) The varieties of sausage - and indeed cheese - mean this need not be repetitive. I accompany mine with a strong black coffee. Bliss!

The omlette exceeded expectations. Green beans sliced into 1/2 inch pieces cooks well and tastes good :) Put the toms in the omlette with the red pepper and chillis. Oh, and a very small leek. Needed 3 eggs to bind and am duly stuffed to the gunwales etc. :rotfl:

Also found out that chorizo doesn't grate well :rotfl: Even a stub. Had to slice n chop finely instead. That was a nice addition to the omlette. Love omlettes and every one is different :T
Have stayed up quite late for me at mo so am snoozing while I type.

Sweet dreams to all our lovely low carbers!

  • Morning everyone :hello:

Tis a lovely morning here, got the window open & listening to a bird tweeting away :D

    B - 2 egg cheese omelette
L - 2 crackers with butter & cheese, garlic sausage
D - chilli (from freezer) with garlic mushrooms & cauli mash

I love easy dinners, just taking something (HM) ready made out of the freezer & heating up, tis great!! :D Mercy, I think I need to do more make & freeze dinners, your way is the way to go methinks!!

I'll be loving & leaving you for a few days from today ;) Going to Edinburgh tomorrow (yaay :j), Glasgow on Friday (we are going to Kelvingrove as well, Gers, didn't know there was a Dr. Who exhibition on though, also going to the Science Museum) and then we are going to the Lake District on Saturday, heading home on Sunday. Staying with & visiting family on Thursday & Friday night so going to be busy, busy!!

Have sort of decided that I'm going to have a break from low-carb while I'm away  I'm not going to go mad, probably try to be low-gi instead, but I just think it's gonna be too much hassle to continue & tbh I can't be bothered!! :o I don't want to bring attention to my attempt at weight-loss, I hate peeps knowing I'm on a 'diet' so I'll just eat 'normally' but 'carefully' iyswim.

Anyway, gotta go as I have a million & one things to do today. Might pop in later, but if I don't have time, I'll see you on Sunday!!

    Morning

Had my usual stuff this morning and just about to head out. Got LOADS to get through before shutting my work laptop for a while. Will be away from tomorrow until middle of November though not all holiday. Come back and then straight into 3 days down south.

Not packing much for the break - enough knickers and a couple of tops. Got my bamboo long sleeved top which I will live in for the week. Bamboo is anti-bacterial and non smelly and extremely warm. Cottage is heated and the outside cold. Am determined to go minimal and not cart around so much stuff.

Back later - have fun folks.

Just going to cook off some chilli for dinner tonight once my mince has defrosted. Will make it extra spicy as i feel like i'm coming down with a cold so it should clear my head!

Good morning, bit dull here, but have lots of ironing to keep me occupied

Enyoy your breaks Gers and Sweet.

My mouse trap has arrived, bit late tho i reckon as i half fillled the cats bowl with dried food yesterday, she didnt eat any and it's all gone this morning so the mouse has stashed enough food for a month icon9.gif
Didnt think about removing it icon9.gif

Am sure i can smell wee in the kitchen too, but i could be imagining things.

Well, if it doesn't use this trap, it'll be bloody curtains for mousie as i'll have to get rentokill in.

I didn't see it but that's so right. I look at the ingredients on even the plain cardboard stuff like cornflakes and branflakes and it's all got salt and sugar added. And if grains are so healthy, why do they need to fortify them all with a ton of added vitamins? AND cereal really gets stuck in your teeth, I hate that.

Who I am to talk though, I had leftover pizza for breakfast :( At least I'm not pretending that's healthy.
On the other hand I was quite good yesterday at work. I had my salad, cheese and coleslaw at noon, to be honest I made it in a hurry and it didn't fill me up. So I was hungry all afternoon and was in a meeting with sandwiches and crisps, but I resisted and only had 3 crisps :)

    Tuesday
    B: Nothing, running late
L: Salad, cheese, coleslaw, 3 crisps
    D:Pizza
Drinks: Litre of squash, some coffee, glass of beer
    Exercise: None

The programme makers got a guy to do the Special K diet for 2 weeks. He only had bowl of special K for brekkie and one for lunch, then normal evening meal...like they push on the adverts.

Poor chap was absolutely ravenous, said he was so hungry, weak, tired, sleepy and v grumpy all day. After all that he only lost 1lb I think, bearing in mind he'd practically starved himself....when asked what he was going to have for brekkie tomorrow he said egg and bacon sarnie (bread no-no buy 'yeah' for the egg & bacon :rotfl:)
