  • Yes, well done Sheila. Thanks to Mercy for the reminder about exercise, it will make a difference. I will consult my nutrition bibles to see if there is any more info on carbs/fibre, it's all getting a bit muddled!

sheila -thanks for that link, so what we are saying is that the carbs on are u.k label are not the total carbs in that product, the total carbs would be the carbs added to the fibre.

That really does seem misleading for anyone just looking at a product(not for carb diet reasons) and seeing 10gm carbs when the real total is the 10gms plus the gms of fibre.

sorry guys, Thanks for bearing with me, some things just take time to get you're head round! makes you wonder why rose elliot says that in her book - she should have mentioned that this was for u.s readers and not the u.k.

randm - whatever the label states as the carbohydrate content is the figure that you use in the UK. In the US the figure includes the fibre and it has to be subtracted to get the amount that you count within your limit. I learnt this to my cost when I started as I was having too many carbs without realising it :)
  • OK, from my 500 odd page The Composition of foods issued by the FSA. Available carbohydrate is listed as....'the sum of the free sugars (glucose, fructose, galactose, sucrose, maltose, lactose and oligosaccharides) and complex carbohydrates (dextrins, starch and glycogen). These are the carbohydrates which are digested and absorbed, and are glucogenic in man.'

Don't know if that makes things any clearer :p

    Hi
I can't see the carb count on the website but it contains milk powder aspartame and soy lethicin so I would personally avoid it. If you really like hazelnut chocolate then Aldi do a really nice one that is around 36 carbs per 100g

    http://www.aldi.co.uk/uk/html/product_range/product_range_18259.htm

I haven't looked at the ingredients but my daughter likes this and it is around £1.09 for 200g
  • Thanks Sheila I shall try that one. I started low carbing again on Monday (tried 6-7 years ago) but struggled as I love chocolate and cakes. I am really craving chocolate cake at the moment :(

I get my chocolate fix in a mocha (feeling very naughty as my GP wants me to eat a low oxalate diet which doesn't allow for coffee or cocoa!) or eating chocolate that's 90% or higher - really don't need very much when it's that strong. If you're not keen on that dark then mix it with other things such as nuts to add some sweetness - e.g. drizzle over brazils/pecans etc or mix it with coconut oil and chopped nuts.
Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

I was just popping in here to ask about puddings, seems it's a big issue for lots off u . Hurrah, I know I'll get lots of good ideas.

Low carbed and lost 2 stone several years ago. Had a baby, whacked it back on ~ after the birth, sleepless nights you see.

Anyhoo, hubs and I are on it now, but we miss a sweet treat.
I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.

Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.
  • Sugar free jelly with berries is one of our favourites.

Also raspberry pavlova, the recipe is at the start of the thread. (Thanks Mercy) Flax seed cookies with chocolate chips, made from a few squares of a balance bar.
