randm- what information are you referring to? If you want the carb count then look at the pack and use the carb figure that is showing as the fibre has already been taken off to get that figure in the UK. The Americans have the gross figure on their packaging and have to subtract the fibre count to get net carbs.]
sheila, i am really getting in a muddle here, i have just taken out rose elliots book from the library and she also states that 'if a packet states that the food contains 12g carbs and 7gm fibre you simply subtract the fibre from the carbs to find out how many carbs you need to count, these are called net carbs.'I checked and she is british. how do we find the correct information?0 -
randm, just have a look at the newspaper article I've just posted...it says that producers....for cereals anyway, and I'm sure other products will have to comply too...have until 2014 to change their labling!

this is from a pdf from the food nutrition labelling people. If we are told what of the cars are made up of sugar, and what of the fats are made up of saturated fat , then surely if the carbs were made up of ----gms of fibre, this would also be listed under the carbs as carbs- that fibres, rather than being listed seperately?sodium g

My husband fought doing this for ages, but after a month he's now used to 1/4, it will soon be no sugar and we can do away with the white stuff completely.
Re-educating taste buds is a better way than relying on sweeteners, however natural they are.
I did test some of the bread recipes when I first started LCing, but as nothing ever comes close, I just got into the mind set of not having it.
Not having bread opens up a whole new world of other options, and again it's that re-education thing. I never thought I could do without bread, I used to eat loads of it, but it doesn't bother me at all now.
Edited to say Truvia is not Stevia, see here http://www.brucebradley.com/food/truvia-honestly-sweet-or-dishonestly-marketed/
Thank you for the reality check. The article that you linked to was eye-opening. I have gone from 2 spoonfulls of sugar to 1 quite successfully over the last couple of months, but got a bit stuck. I will finish the tub of Truvia and revert to small amounts of brown sugar. I do like a slice of lime in warm water; which will help with the weaning.

But they aren't. If you compare the data for the same item on UK and USA labels you will see a difference between the carbohydrate figures - the USA carbohydrate figure includes fiber [sic] which then has to be subtracted, the UK lists fibre separately.
And if the article skymist linked to is correct then I suppose we may as well give up reading the nutrition tables altogether LOLEat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

thanks guys:j
Hi Hun
Yep, desiccated coconut. It's available in sweetened and unsweetened. So pick the good :A one :rotfl:
Those muffins are rather nice.
Now that's 2 puddings I have to make soon :T :j I see a week coming where all I eat is pudding! :j:T:beer::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::A
Oh and Mexican Fudge.
It's ace having folk mention these things as it reminds me quite what fun is to be had on page 1 :rotfl:
Big love

Mercy - sounds great
There is always going to be something to throw a spanner in the works as ideas change, things come around and we can, if we want, end up confused. This works, is good for your health and that is what matters to me. If you look at calories, which we don't, it takes 3500 calories to put on / lose a lb of weight so 250 calories a week is not really significant.
randm - I stick by what I said as you will see the difference if you look on American websites, as daska says.

Well I lost 3lb this week so I must have done something right. It would be great to lose in the way that I did when I first started ( one stone in 2 weeks) but it gets harder when you have been at it a while and loss is loss. I will keep to 30 carbs for another week and see what happens.

I know! Puddings! :rotfl:
Whatever is 'proved' 1 day is 'refuted' the next. If you believe everything you read/hear/see you will be in such a tizzy that you grab the spuds and chocolate and eat from nervous exhaustion :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
They want us confused.
Bread is cheap
Pasta is filling and nutritious (?)
Nutella releases it's energy slowly??????
All these things line someone's pockets.
Eat fresh, clean, cooked at home foods.
Avoid sugar, grains, and sweet things.
Buy foods in the shape they are supposed to be.
Anyway, Sheila - well done on the loss! Yes it is harder the further we go. That's partly as we're getting to the meat of it. You've lost the water, you've lost the easy-shock weight, now you are down to the basic fat stuff. Took you ages to put it on and maintain it so it's bedded inIt's a loss. Keep exercising to maintain muscle mass and measure yourself. If you haven't already, do a many points measure. Then on weeks of less loss, measure again.

Well done Sheila, its probably a case of plodding slowly down abit each week now, which is ok if every week you go down, but that often isn't the case is it? You have such perseverance and are a great inspiration to all.
As Dory from Finding Nemo would say-"Just keep swimming(low carbing!) ". You will get there.xx :T0 -
Mercy, I understand puddings
If there is one thing that I really miss it is cake / puddings but I have started back with my chocolate mousse and keep with the almond pancakes so they will have to do and aren't so bad anyway. I do eat out sometimes, keeping low carb, but will usually have the indulgence of ice cream or a pudding. Not on the cards now so I must resist !
Thanks to both marbett and your good self for your encouragement
I have started using urine sticks again and am back in ketones but also a little blood and white cells, which isn't so good. Will chat it over with my GP on Thursday when I see her about my blood results and MRI.
