  • Hi randm, I would really recomment Rose Elliot's Low Carb Vegetarian Diet and or the recipe book. She includes a menu plan for the 2 weeks induction and has bread and 'cracker' recipes. I also recommend the one by Celia Brooks Brown.

Ditto the Rose Elliot book recommendation. I'm also veggie and the 3 books I bought have mad this really very easy to switch to.

thanks guys, one more question, i cannot find anywhere on the food standards agency site or google search, information for back of pack nutrition labelling information.
On the nutrition label you have carbs and then underneath you have "that sugars". I read this as how much of the total carbs is made up of sugar, natural or added, but because of how it is written( "that") my husband reads this as how much of the carb is turned into glucose in the body.
I would love to see this clarified on the fsa website as they are the ones who set the labels, so if anyone can help please do!

randm- what information are you referring to? If you want the carb count then look at the pack and use the carb figure that is showing as the fibre has already been taken off to get that figure in the UK. The Americans have the gross figure on their packaging and have to subtract the fibre count to get net carbs.

I use fitday.com to keep an eye on carbs, protein, vits and minerals each day. It is an American website so the carbs need to be adjusted and if you put on any English items you have to add back on the fibre to give a true daily reading :)

Have a good weekend everyone. Sticking on in there, around 30 carbs daily.

    Breakfast - 2 fried eggs, 1 bacon
Lunch - half avocado, small piece cheese, yogurt with flax / nut / q10
    Dinner - stuffed mushrooms
Snacks - 1 piece 70% chocolate, 4 walnuts, half tsp almond butter
Bedtime - cocoa with lactofree milk

    Hi

I've not seen 'that sugars' but often after carb amount, 'of which sugars'. This becomes self explanatory. Do check a few more things in the cupboard as I've just checked mine and could only find 'of which'.

All carbs are turned into sugars in the body eventually. The 'of which' number indicates the amount which is already sugar when you eat it.

As all sugars are carbs I'd just go for the carb amount and use this for any calculations. It is the total carb content and the most useful figure to use. I think that's what we all do here when we say how many carbs we have had.

There's a lot to find out when it's new but keep asking questions as you feel the need. Some of us are veterans, others more recent converts and it does all of us well to go over things from a new perspective now and then.

    Big love

  • Don't know why I haven't noticed this before, apologies if you know already. Onken full fat set yogurt has 1/2 the carbs of the lowest full-fat greek yogurts @ 3.6g per 100g.

It doesn't have the creaminess of greek yogurt, it's a bit lighter and more refreshing, and good for cooking with I would imagine - in fact I used it in a chicken korma last night - with cauli rice and mangetout, it was really good.

Beautiful sunny day in the west midlands, :j might just get my gardening head on. Noticed a couple of crocus in bloom the other day, everything is shooting up now, just hope we can keep the rain at bay!! Bye for now
  • Morning all, I am taking tentative steps to reduce carbs & have learnt loads from helpful members on another board, but it seems a little quiet over there at the moment.

I love several hot drinks throughout the day, I have 1 Brown sugar in the morning and then truvia throughout the day. Are there any alternative that are carb & calorie free? I tried molasses but the bitterness was too much.

    Hi all!

    At Lidl this morn
1/2 price sliced meats 125g for 69p. Ham and Turkey have 1g carb per 100g, chicken has around 3g.
    1/2 price cucumbers @ 39p

Then went to Asda for avocados and did well on the whoops shelf. :j :rotfl:

It's a lovely sunny warm morning in Bolton :T May tidy the garden some later.

    Have a lovely Sunday! :D
