Murphydog, one for you http://www.oliveoilsource.com/page/heating-olive-oil My initial impression is that they being rather choosy in deciding what to compare it to but the mythbusting is interesting. Not sure how far to believe it...Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

Thanks for that Daska. What comes out is he/they seem to be refuting the claims of other oil 'authorities' that their's is better than someone else's, but he/they are also saying that olive is better than anyone else's! Pot and kettle spring to mind.
What is sort-of glossed over is the reference to the quality of mass-produced oils and the lower smoke points of these. Lets face it, most of us buy mass-produced olive oil from a store rather than wait outside an Italian olive oil factory in October for a gallon container!
So are we any the wiser? Well, I would say, unless you've paid an arm and a leg for a bottle - dark in colour of course, clear bottled oils, no good - of a traceable product, a brand you've never heard of, from a specialist importer, I would still stay well clear. Who would want to fry with an expensive oil anyway?
At least with butter you know where you are!0 -
Hi all,
Had a good think about mr el and I think it could've been the bottle if wine he had when I was light shift , could that explain it?
I also didn't know about the olive oil, I use coconut oil but what else can I use for cooking then ? What other oils are suitable ?0 -
I went to a tesco today and they didn't have black farmer sausages either, could it be because I live in Scotland ?0

Choose a natural fat - one that someone's great granny would recognise: lard, goose/duck fat, butter, ghee etc... olive oil is great for dressings and emulsions (mayo, hollandaise etc)Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

going back to eating lard will take quite a big mind change for me, i have been programmed to think it is evil0

But nowhere near as evil as margarine and sunflower oil!
Butter on the other hand, as I spelled out earlier, has a huge number of health benefits. And ghee is great for cooking with.Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

For the best taste look for the ones free from ethyl butyrate - Khanum do both. You can order it on-line if needs be. Or make your own, it's dead simple.Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan
