I've just looked back to see who it was that recommended low carb to me in the first place. I posted a while ago asking how to increase my HDL cholesterol, and it's thanks to a reply on that thread that I even ever looked into low carb eating.

Didn't realise it was daska that had suggested it - I've a lot to thank you for daska. Whilst I've not had another blood test yet (will wait another couple of months until I've been doing this for 6 months) I just feel so much better in myself, and my cardiac symptoms have completely gone away, so I know that it has been a change for the better.

    Thank you! :j

Is almond meal ground almonds ? Might keep the pancake recipe handy myself :)

Why use sparkling water instead of milk though ?

Sparkling water gives bubbles so makes the mixture lighter than using milk and does not add carbs.

I came away from hospital on Friday with the news that, whilst I have lost a huge amount of weight they would like me to lose more before I have surgery and I have 3 months to do it. I have been trying hard but have slowed down for a while now so away with the chocolate and back to the nitty gritty I guess. 6 months ago they would have done it but I refused then :D I promised my GP that I wouldn't go below 50 carbs as she isn't happy with it but I can only maintain on that amount.

Yikes Sheila that's a worry, why would they do it 6 months ago when you were heavier but now they want you to loose more weight?
  • Re. the chocolate/nuts/coconut oil mixture, I was putting in 1/2 and 1/2 but found it a bit too greasy, so I use 1/3 c.oil now. I pop the mixture in silicone muffin trays - a couple of teaspoons in each - they come out like those Elizabeth Shaw mint crisps, a very handy size :D

It is really motivating going down a dress size, although it's got to the stage where even my knickers are too big now! I bought a couple of pairs of the Mary Portas kinky knickers - which are really comfortable - and unfortunately they're getting a bit too loose now, at £10 a pair, they aren't something you can buy every day!

Sheila, you/your body sounds like it's in a bit of a rut and needs a shake up, you have been stalling a bit too long and if 50g carbs isn't working I think you need to try something else, or go through the 'what is making me stall' process again. Or - and I know you have commented on this before - what about trying the intermittent fasting?

It's not for everyone, but it obviously works for quite a few people, and if surgery is required, then it's all hands on deck, so to speak.

The whole reason Michael Mosley did was was for health reasons and it may just give your body a bit of a re-set. It is easier with LCing - although I find it challenging when it's really cold - as those cravings associated with carbs aren't there. Might be worth a read up?

i tried the intermittent fasting this weekend as i was night shift, i think for me working nights it is great and works out really well, but i think i would struggle if i worked days ( maybe finally a good reason to be nights?)

i weighed myself yesterday afternoon ( which would be my morning) and i found out that i have lost 1 stone since 21/1/13, i really dont like the idea of losing weight as fast as this ( as i'm sure murphy dog will remember) dont get me wrong i am happy i am losing weight and i have alot lot more to go, i am also the lightest i have been for a long long long long time, but i dont want to loose muscle mass, i just want to loose fat, so i am going to try and up my excercise maybe do more sets of the weight lifting, and get back to running again,

i dont want to start eating more carbs just yet, as i am quite happy with the 50g of carbs so far, but if it keeps up i may up it to 75 g fro a few weeks as my low carb day of my carb cycling that i am trying

sheila have you maybe thought of carb cycling?
  • L - losing a stone so quickly must feel great, physically, as much as everything else. If you've ever held a 7kg weight you'll know how heavy it seems, and it was something you were walking round with every day!

You will probably find that 1/2 of the 'weight' could have been water. I don't want to put down your loss, but it is quite common - if you are susceptible to water retention - for 2-8lbs (occasionally more) to be water. So don't worry too much that it's all muscle, it would be very hard to loose that much muscle that quickly.

You are right though to maintain the weight training - any resistance exercise - and although I'm not up to date on your weight, I would say keep the running until there is less stress on your joints. I good strong walk can be just as beneficial - esp. up hill!

If the I.F. worked well on night shift it could be your saving grace! Things are looking up - esp. now your husband is on board.:D

    thanks murphydog,

i'm sure it is water myself so trying not to get too worried about it, i will if it continues though as you know i want health, being thin whilst might be better for me i want it to be healthy rather than gaunt :)

yes life is much easier with mr el on board, we do still have some carby things in the house that mr el has when he is craving, but i am hoping next time either of us has one i can whip up a coconut oil/chocolate/nut mix in jig pokery time then make some coconut bombs or almond cookies ( what temp and for how long for them btw?)

i have struggled with shin splints with my running, but i really enjoy it is and am missing it just now, will go for a walk on the treadmill tonight though i think :)

hope all is well with everyone :)

edited to add: have started back the c25k, i am taking it easy though and will be repeating week 1 for the next two to three weeks so that i dont put too much pressure on my shin splints

Thanks for the encouragement and advice. I am about half a stone heavier then my last hospital visit due to binging over Christmas. I also have a record of post operative infection so they are just playing safe I guess. My thyroid is also borderline hypothyroid which can slow down weight loss and I have had it retested today so we'll see what shows.

murphydog - I will try 30 carbs for a couple of weeks and then review it after that but will keep IF in mind

Well done everyone and Elantan please don't worry about losing a lot as I lost 1 stone in my first two weeks and it didn't harm me. I have tried going up and down in the past but may do so again although it didn't help much before.

Now that's just asking for trouble :rotfl:

Seriously, I'm not sure. Do you want a sauce? If so I'd thaw, squash and mix with melted dark choc and cream miself :D

I do like raspberries as they are so I'd probably just have them on top.
