Ooooo do you happen to have a recipe for it Daska ?0

To be honest it's really so simple you don't need a recipe
Get a good clean jar and make sure it's really dry - either leave to air dry, or I heat it in the oven after washing and then leave it to cool.
Put a pound of butter in a thick bottomed, high sided pan and heat very gently. It will start to separate and foam, keep heating gently - you're not looking to boil it.
A pound should take about 20-25 minutes to get to the point that the curds at the bottom have turned a golden brown (not burnt LOL) and the fat is nicely golden.
Allow to cool a little (15 minutes?)
Strain into the jar - use 2 or more layers of muslin/cheesecloth
Allow to cool
Then put the lid on
Keep it on the side, NOT in the fridge (you don't want condensation in the jar from opening and closing) and always use a clean spoon.

is it just heated butter? or is there something left in the strainer?
yes it does seem very easy tbh ... which for me is a good thing as i am not so good at cooking as the pancake fiasco will show lol0 -
yes, essentially that's what it is, the browned curds will be caught in the cheesecloth and you'll end up with a clear golden fat which will then solidify to an opaque lighter gold.Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

I was thinking that on occasions it may be useful/convenient to have a protein shake. It's not something I see myself doing regularly, but there have definitely been occasions where it would have been handy to have the option.
I've spotted a current discount offer:

But am bamboozled by all the types of protein powder available
Is there a particular type I should be getting/avoiding?
Thanks.0 -

Hi
When I use protein shakes I use this one
http://www.myprotein.com/sports-nutrition/impact-whey-protein/10530943.html
There are lots of flavours but I only ever get the plain one. The protein content goes down with flavourings added. I also really don't like 'flavoured' things.
Mine went
3 heap tbls whey protein
2 raw eggs
splash of milk
Cocoa, coconut oil, vanilla essence - whatever
These things can never be tasty really, if they are you may need to look at the contents. I would have one for breakfast around 06.30 and be fine until 12.30.
Any 'isolates' are processed at higher temperatures and the protein is changed by this. I cannot recall why, but remember this not being so good. IYSWIM.

Thanks Mercy.
So I need whey protein, and should avoid the isolates. Will see what I can get ordered0 -
I am new to this! And i have a couple of questions. i need to have something simple for breakfast as i get an icky stomach if i don't and i am also vegetarian, so would love to stick with toast.
the atkins book uses their atkins cuisine all purpose baking mix in recipes for muffins and bread, and also has their own bread mix. does anyone know where to buy these products the cheapest, or have any alternatives for low carb bread / or flour available to buy in the shops, or have any of you made up your own flour mixes?
In the atkins book it says to minus off the fibre content from the carbs to get the net carbs which is what you count, but the comments on amazon uk say that this doesn't count for us in the u.k as food labels are different here. Does anyone have any incite on this?
where do i buy sugar free jam?(been doing a search without much luck)
thanks

Hi!
Welcome to the lovely place
There are many recipes on page 1 of this thread in the recipe list.
Sugar free / reduced jam still seems to be full of carbs so it's not something I use. Someone will be along with more idea I think
As for fibre / carb count - on British items, fibre is listed separately from carbs so you can just read the totals as they are. I think American stuff puts the two items together.

As far as I can tell 'sugar free' jam just means they don't use table sugar. I have the 'super' jam cookbook and IIRC they all start with several litres of grape juice which you cook down to a syrup.
Atkins stuff, when you find it, is very expensive. But you can make oopsie rolls and there are lots of other recipes at the start of the thread.Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan
