Hey all, long time no see, hope your good, as usual loads of questions but will ask one at a time ( so I don't get confused with the answers) does anyone have a health low carb flapjack type recipe?
Hi L, nice to see you back, I see you are still in the same job, must be frustrating!?
Re. your question, I doubt it because of the nature of a 'normal' flapjack consisting of oats, dried fruits, honey and other sticky stuff to bind it all together, they couldn't have any more carbs in them if they tried! I can't think of any ingredients that would compensate.
Ooh, actually almond butter would be a good binder, for what though? I can't think......0 -
Thanks murphy dog ( great to see you too , hope all i well with you ?) yep same job still, I was wondering if the flapjack type thing could actually help with the whole sugar issue ... Back to the drawing board then I spose lol
I had a feeling that it wasn't possible to have low carb flap jacks but thought if anyone would know it would be all you lovely people here
Murphy dog would you know if the 5:2 diet would work with low carbing as well? I'm thinking of ways to improve my cognitive function after the T.I.A ... Obviously I will speak to the dr on Friday about it but was wondering from a nutritional point of view would it be advisable ?
Just thinking this may possibly actually help with night shifts as I could do the fasting bit on nights ?0 -

I actually think 5:2 is easier with LC, as the hunger cravings you get with carbs have generally disappeared. Me and my husband have been doing I.F. which is similar, we do a fast day every 4 days, leaving approx 21 hours before eating again. Not for weight loss - however my husband has lost 3kg in the last couple of months and I've lost a couple - but it's amazing how free it makes you feel not having to worry about what to eat or prepare. We find it really easy, but I wouldn't say it's for everyone.
As long as you are eating well - good fresh produce - on the other days, nutritionally there shouldn't be a problem. However, having a brief knowledge of your various issues I would certainly run it past your GP first.0 -
Yep that's what I'm thinking as well. Wouldn't try it without speaking to him, but as you know the night shift is my issue ( I'm in just now) I do so so so good until that sugar craving kicks in and it tends to be around night shift time, I also noticed from what I had read about the 5:2 people are more awake and alert, that may solve the tiredness issue and need for sugar/ caffeine
I do like the low carb way of eating and feel much healthier on it, have managed to finally get back to pre holiday weight which was much better than it had been for a long time, so I want to continue with it, but I am so aware if the night shift issue so really wanted to try and tackle this for good as there are no jobs currently going in my field ... Ultimately I need a new job, but I need to get healthy as well and can't hang off till I get a new job
Still going to the personal trainer that's been 6 months, I only have two sessions left to take and won't be able to afford to carry on when they are done but I have bought weight etc to use at home to keep up the momentum
Basically I'm still working at it to try to get everything right so that it works for me
Does that make sense ?0 -
Hi
Trying hard to keep with it. I made bubble and squeak with cooked celeriac, swede and cabbage this morning and had it with 2 eggs. Very nice
Still waiting for MRI but I am trying to walk for 20 - 30 minutes each day. I also need to do some work in the garden, once the rain stops, but will pace myself.
Aldi has some lovely primulas, 4 for £1.99, in a range of colours including different shades of pink.
How is everyone doing?0 -

L, I don't know whether you looked at the link on the 5:2 thread that I think Gloomandoom put on, to a report from Zoe Harcombe on I.F. specifically since the Horizon programme. In her summery she confirmed basically what I was saying about being LC/getting your insulin levels in check before starting I.F. It's much easier and more controllable. If you haven't read it, check it out.
Hi Sheila, our land is just grass with water at the moment, I don't really want to walk on it, let alone plant anything! Lots of bulbs unexpectantly coming up though, of course as we've moved we have no idea what they are, so that will be a nice surprise.
I did myself a lovely salad last night, watercress, rocket and spinach leaves, long green beans, cherry toms, corned beef and a poached egg on top, rather scrumy.0 -
will do murphy dog .. thanks0

spoke to the dr today regarding the 5:2 and low carbing option, he says i can go for it if i want but that there is no evidence that it helps with alzehimers or cognative function so not to expect it to help me there, if i can get though through the need to have the sugar on the night shift due to not feeling tired i think it will help deal with the sugar so that i can remain low carb,
i am going to try for 50g of carb again, and maybe involve carb cycling for when i work out0 -
Hope it works for you, elantan.
I see Marrbett has been lurking, show yourself womanhow are you, how have you and the family been doing?

:rotfl::rotfl:You found me out!!!!
Thanks murphy, I'm doing ok thanks, I've had a mad month!
My lovely mum had a cancer diagnosis just before Christmas, and she's had surgery and has to have more shortly. Then we play the Long waiting game for resultsSo, that's taken its toll, and my oldest son turned 18 last week, and my youngest 10 yesterday. Lots of parties/entertaining as well as scraping/plastering/painting rooms has left me feeling like January was a yeuuuk month!!
So best foot forward for February!! Food wise, I'm still tucking into cake, but hopefully, that should be finished soon and then no more! Otherwise, I'm eating well, and managing to maintain quite well.
Its great to see this thread spring to life again, I really believe that more and more 'professionals' are beginning to believe the low carb way of eating is healthy, and the myths are dying down.
I'm going to try and join in more with you all,big hugs to you.xx0
