Hi katniss and welcome
People here are following different forms of low carb diets, including paleo, and we all help and support one another. There are lots of recipes on the first page, kindly updated by Mercy, and they may give you inspiration. I find it harder at this time of year but try to stay on the straight and narrow most of the time. Come the Spring, when it is warmer, it seems to be easier.
marbett - sorry to hear about your problems ((((hugs))))
elentan - if you try the 5:2 diet, let us know how it suits you? 50 carbs is the maintenance level that I try to stick to as well but I need to go lower to lose weight.
Mercy - thanks for the tip offHow are the moggies doing?
schoolhouse - show yourself please and post
durham_mim - well done on the weight loss
daska, NigeWick, boots_babe - how goes it with you?
pink princess - how were the coconut bombs? Also please can I have the recipe for almond butter cookies?
murphydog - I planted up my baskets but have yet to dig the ground and clear the weeds. I am sure that your water problem will subside if we get some sun, whnever that is0 -

I follow the idea pretty much but am not evangelical about it. I also started off counting calories and have lost 60 lbs since last March. Now that I'm in the swing of it I do not calorie count any more. The way I see food, our ancient ancestors ate what they could get their hands on and that would include some grasses and tubers as well as meat, fish, fowl, plants and fruit & nuts in season. Just no bread, pasta, pizza, cakes, doughnuts, jam and any other processed stuff.
I believe in treats and will be having a packet of crisps and a few beers when watching the American Football Superbowl tonight. The mind of the bigot is like the pupil of the eye; the more light you pour upon it, the more it will contract.

On the home front, I've got three apple trees, a plum tree and blackcurrant, raspberry & thornless blackberry to plant when we get back. I shall be placing the trees out front and remodelling the back garden to take the soft fruit and some veg. I have looked in to companion planting and deep beds so have ideas of how I want it to look. It will be Nasturtiums and Foxgloves with the fruit trees and I shall sort out what needs to go together in the deep beds.
And the exercise will do me good. The mind of the bigot is like the pupil of the eye; the more light you pour upon it, the more it will contract.

Nasturtiums are excellent in salads. Leaves are peppery like watercress and flowers are edible but don't taste of much. Look pretty though :jlow carb recipe list - link on page 1 low carb support threadYou don't have any control over what life throws at you.You DO have control over how you react0

Still doing quite well thanks Sheila, just about to sit down and work out a menu for next week so i can go shopping.
Have to say I had one of my most delicious dishes this week for the first time - tomato and artichoke stew, YUM! Super quick and easy to make too.
Pink princess - ditto what Sheila says, I'd love to have the recipe for the almond cookies they sound really nice.
Managed 3 swimming sessions this week - only do 2 usually so that's good going for me. Going to struggle this next week though as I have to go away with work so won't have much chance.
NigeWick - hope you enjoy the Shard, you'll have a fantastic view from up there, have fun!0 -
The almond butter cookies are moreish,
8oz of flax seed
8oz of ground almonds
Two tablespoons of stevia/or sweetner of choice
Then keep adding almond butter until a sticky dough
Add in lumps to a baking tray, yummy
The coconut bombs are just as nice,
2 tablespoons of coconut oil, 1 tablespoon of stevia and 1 tablespoon of sugar free coco powder. Put in the microwave for 40 seconds and mix, set as tiny bomb shapes.Life is short, smile while you still have teeth0 -
spoke to the dr today regarding the 5:2 and low carbing option, he says i can go for it if i want but that there is no evidence that it helps with alzehimers or cognative function so not to expect it to help me there, if i can get though through the need to have the sugar on the night shift due to not feeling tired i think it will help deal with the sugar so that i can remain low carb,
i am going to try for 50g of carb again, and maybe involve carb cycling for when i work out
No evidence doesn't mean no impact, it just means no-one's tried/managed to get funding to run a study.
Have you tried reading that book I'm always banging on about? You have to give your body time to adjust...
