Bad breath is due to ketone excretion and seems to settle once your body has fully adapted to low carb regime, or so I found.

I am ok today thanks schoolhouse, just been busy ;)

I got this in my inbox today and wondered if it might help anyone? I would not pay £100 a week for it but £40, with all that is in it, doesn't seem bad for anyone on their own? I prefer to make my own food but I know that some people like to have it all prepared for them

Hi Sheila, had read up about it and saw it was down to ketone acids... Was just wondering if there was anything that helped till it settles down , I read it can take a few months to settle
  • Well, as long as you know it is from the carb restriction and no other reason, the only thing I know for sure is make sure you are drinking enough water, lay off coffee and other stimulants. Chewing gum may also help. I don't know if usual foods such as parsley, deal with this particular problem.

Where time is concerned, I think it may be an individual thing. Others may also have methods for control.

Next silly q ( I do have loads sorry) hubby has joined me finally in the low carb so life is easier, however for breakfast he is currently eating two sausages, two bacon and a fried egg, how can I make this nutritionally healthier, just as filling and keeping it low carb ?

He doesn't like scrambled egg or turkey rashers, he doesn't like an omelette for breakfast either :(

How about asparagus in hollandaise sauce, with whatever fried/poached eggs on top that he wants. Maybe a grilled tomato and some bacon/sausage with it?

I've never tried asparagus with hollandaise sauce, sounds good though ... Will suggest it, thanks
  • Hi Elantan, fried mushrooms and tomatoes are good in a fry up.
  • Schoolhouse, I agree about sugar subs. I try to use just a tiny bit where it is horrible without. I tend to use Truvia and have found it works best with lemony stuff. I made something like the Reeses cups for a small fundraiser recently and they all sold, yum!
As I have been eating this way for almost a year now I find that I have to make cakey things otherwise I would just eat cake.
  • Yes, def mushrooms and toms. I use the big open mushrooms - knob of butter in the centre, S & P - and about 4 cherry toms. Everything goes under the grill. Also black pudding, full of vitamins and iron - not the small rings though, the good quality larger size you get in good butchers.

I would also have 2 eggs, but drop one of the sausages. Cook them all the same but have a couple for lunch with steaming bowl of home-made soup. Takes your mind off not having bread, and you can dunk them as well :D

What about ham and poached eggs?

Almond pancakes with berries and cream / low carb bread toasted with nut butter / poached eggs on low carb toast / low carb vegetable bubble & squeak with eggs and tomato ?

I am out with my daughter and family for her birthday at Zizzi's tonight, using 25% off voucher. I plan to have the salad with ricotta, beetroot and chicken and drink water. Can I resist the desserts, my downfall? :D

Have a good day everyone :)
